General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management) Full time Macquarie Neurosurgery is one of Australia's largest academic neurosurgery groups, with 10 neurosurgeons having nationally and internationally recognized clinical subspecialty expertise.
Our organization is also committed to teaching the next generation of neurosurgeons and expanding knowledge in neurosurgery through our research programs.
Based at Macquarie University, we run outreach programs with clinics throughout NSW and ACT.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The General Manager will oversee the strategic and operational management of a large, dynamic neurosurgery practice.
The role focuses on ensuring seamless operations, financial performance, and growth while maintaining high-quality patient care.
The GM is responsible for managing the administrative staff and works with junior medical staff and consultant neurosurgeons to ensure an efficient and collaborative work environment.
The GM reports strategic initiatives and outcomes to the Board on a consistent basis.
This is a largely autonomous leadership role with a high level of decision-making responsibility and accountability.
Key Areas of Responsibility: Strategy and Business Development: Develop and implement strategic plans to drive growth.Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and potential expansions.Lead and guide the administrative teams.Perform business analyses to support decision-making.Operations Management: Oversee daily operations in partnership with the Practice Manager, ensuring efficiency in scheduling, resource allocation, and creating an optimal patient experience.Manage relationships with external stakeholders and internal departments.Build and manage the annual budget and oversee financial performance.Oversee billing, accounting, and financial reporting.Work to optimize cash flow and ensure financial compliance.Manage insurance policies and third-party contracts.HR & Team Development: Lead recruitment, onboarding, and team retention efforts.Support the Practice Manager to conduct performance reviews and provide staff training and development.Oversee payroll and manage staffing levels.Ensure contracts, HR policies, and procedures are up to date and compliant.ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Tertiary qualification in business, Healthcare Management, or related field.Proven experience (5+ years) in managing healthcare practice operations or a business unit.Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.Expertise in financial management and data-driven decision-making.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with and communicate effectively across clinical, business, and administrative teams.Proactive, highly organised, and well-developed multi-tasking abilities.Flexibility to travel as required.WHY JOIN US: Competitive Salary plus super and bonus, aligned with your experience.A supportive, collaborative team culture.Please submit your resume by clicking APPLY.
