About the Cardiology DepartmentThe Cardiology department provides an extensive range of cardiac services to inpatients and outpatients.
These services include consultations, echocardiography, non-invasive testing (ECG, Holter monitoring), coronary angiography and percutaneous intervention for coronary and non-coronary applications (congenital and valvular), electrophysiological testing and ablation (including AF ablation) and device implantation (pacemaker and ICD).
The department provides 24-hour cardiac catheterisation laboratory services for acute myocardial infarction.
In-patients are managed predominantly in the 32-bed Cardiac and Thoracic Unit on Ward 5 East.
The department has links to the University of Melbourne and a major involvement in teaching, training and research at under-graduate and post-graduate levels, for both nursing and medical staff.
About the RoleAustin Health is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic leader for the position of Director of Cardiology.
The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background and a proven ability to manage and support both clinical and academic activities within the Cardiology discipline.
As Director of Cardiology, you will work closely with the Divisional Management Team to lead all strategic and operational aspects of the service, ensuring the effective use of resources and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within a complex and evolving healthcare environment.
In this role, you will be a key member of the Senior Medical Staff (SMS) Leadership Group, responsible for providing professional leadership and driving excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching within Cardiology at Austin Health.
The Director will report to both the Divisional Medical Director of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine for operational matters and the Chief Medical Officer for professional leadership, ensuring the continued delivery of exceptional care.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeading and overseeing all aspects of the Cardiology department's services, ensuring effective patient care and outcomes.Providing leadership and guidance to both clinical and non-clinical team members.Promoting a culture of excellence in clinical practice, education, and research within the department.Being accountable for patient care standards and outcomes, maintaining a focus on high-quality, patient-centred services.About YouYou will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care.

To be successful in this role you must:
Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).Hold a Fellowship of the relevant Australian Learned College (FRACP), or equivalent.Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Cardiology.Demonstrate a commitment to high-quality patient care.Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum.Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to teaching, training and research.Working at Austin HealthWorking at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day.
