About the role
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking a Director Aquaculture to lead the Aquaculture Branch in developing and implementing policies, regulatory frameworks, research, and management programs to support the sustainable development of aquaculture in NSW.
This includes promoting ecological sustainability, equitable resource allocation, and fostering economically viable marine and land-based aquaculture.
As Director of Aquaculture, you will advise on regulatory reforms, lead aquaculture farming projects, and develop policies to promote sustainable investment and growth in both marine and land-based aquaculture.
Your role includes driving innovation in research, aligning with government, industry, and community priorities, and contributing to business planning by identifying policy needs and allocating resources.
You will build strong relationships with stakeholders, manage financial resources, and represent the sector in State and national forums, contributing to policy development and staying attuned to stakeholder needs.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A strong combination of leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder management skills.
Proven experience in managing complex regulatory, policy, and research programs, particularly in: Aquaculture, Environmental sustainability & Resource management.
A deep understanding of both land-based and marine aquaculture.
The ability to develop and implement policies and strategies that foster sustainable growth and investment in the aquaculture industry.
Strong skills in driving innovation and research to address government, industry, and community priorities.
You will be someone who can:
Navigate politically sensitive issues while balancing diverse stakeholder interests and managing competing priorities.
Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with Community groups, Industry stakeholders & Government departments.
Demonstrate a background in strategic business planning, financial resource management, participation in national forums or advisory committees.
