Paintings ConservatorThe Paintings Conservator is responsible for a wide range of conservation projects including acrylic, oil, and tempera paintings on various surfaces, such as canvas, board, and wall.
Frames conservation and gilding may also be undertaken.We have an opening for a Paintings Conservator to join ICS Melbourne, starting in February 2025.
Based at our Burwood labs, you will have the opportunity to undertake hands-on conservation treatments combined with project management of a variety of lab-based projects.
Some site work will also feature.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and level of appointment in the range of $73,584 – $79,824 plus 12% superannuation.
This full-time position is available in February 2025.International Conservation Services (ICS) is Australia's largest private conservation practice.
We conserve a wide range of cultural and heritage objects and artefacts including paintings, furniture, textiles, paper, sculpture, archaeological artefacts, and wall finishes in buildings.The roleThe work covers a variety of conservation treatments on all types of paintings and painted surfaces including oil paintings, acrylic paintings, tempera, old masters, murals, painted signs, miniatures, icons, and frames.
Treatments may range from maintenance cleaning, infilling, and inpainting, through to executing complex treatments.Day-to-day activities include developing conservation methodologies in collaboration with team members, quoting, and undertaking all technical aspects of conservation.
Other responsibilities may include project planning and implementation, job budget management, time management, subcontractor liaison, disaster response, writing project reports, and supporting and guiding other team members.The ideal candidate will have:Minimum 3 years work experience in paintings conservationExcellent hands-on technical skills for a variety of conservation jobsStrong communication skills in English, both written and verbalAbility to contribute positively in a team environment and also work independentlyStrong organisational and time management skillsExcellent attention to detailSound working knowledge of, and commitment to, Occupational Health and Safety practices in the workplaceCommitment to providing excellent client serviceMembership of the AICCM (Australian Institute for Conservation of Cultural Material) or equivalent other professional organisation, or eligibility to apply for membershipProficient computer skills including MS Office and basic photo applicationsDrivers Licence (essential)What we offerIn return for your hard work and professionalism, you will be entitled to a range of benefits including:Generous annual professional development allowanceGreat working environment and peopleFlexible working arrangementsPlease submit your application using the online application form on the ICS website.
