The Chamber of Fruit & Vegetable Industries in WA (Inc) is a long-established (70+ years), association situated at the Perth Markets in Canning Vale.
Trading as Market West, the organisation represents the 25 primary fresh produce wholesalers (Market Agents) operating from the central trading area of the markets.
We are a not-for-profit association (Associations Incorporations Act 2015) which has built a solid financial background for its Members over the last 10 years.
In 2016, Market West led an industry consortium bid to successfully purchase the markets from the State Government, on behalf of the industry.
As a result, Market West has 2 Industry Directors on the Perth Markets Board.
Key components of the role include:Administer the financial and operational requirements of our credit service (consolidated billing service and clearing house) wholly owned by Market West.Facilitate the movement of Members (Market Agents) fresh produce sales and receipts through their trading floors weekly to registered buyers (average 330 per week).Manage the stringent trading terms (continuing credit agreements) attached to the credit service which had throughput of $645m in the last FY.Ensure funds are collected and distributed efficiently & effectively on a twice weekly basis.Compliance with existing processes and policies that are well established and understood by the stakeholders.Maintain integrity and reliability of the credit service systems, unique software developed specifically for the business (new software is under development).Provide support to the CEO.Oversight of a small team of experienced people who are personally invested and well supported.Strong written and verbal communication skills.A positive personality to deal with Members and a range of industry stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.Strong understanding of overall accounting functions including normal GL and sub ledger operations, BAS and tax reporting.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Solid understanding of Office suites especially Excel.MYOB.Finance or Commerce qualifications (applicants should not be discouraged if they have solid accounting knowledge and experience without that level of qualification).Market West is a member of the national industry body (Fresh Markets Australia) and this role will have some interaction with the other state bodies and sectors on collective matters that affect the industry.
As the markets are a unique industry site, this position requires a flexible work ethic with potential early starts (6-7am) to cater for the nature of the business and its stakeholders.
