It is one of four academic select entry Victorian Government schools in Melbourne.
Students in years 9 and 10 undertake a course of core subjects and have a choice of electives.
An extensive range of VCE studies across all learning areas is offered to students in years 11 and 12.The school places special emphasis on its co-curricular program.
Sport is compulsory at all levels.
Students are encouraged to form their own special interest clubs and there are many opportunities for student leadership.RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2.
The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.Classroom teacher Range 2 will be expected to:- Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students- Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers- Provide expert advice about content, processes and strategies for professional learning- Supervise and train one or more student teachers- Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches.Classroom teacher Range 1 focuses on developing skills and competencies with structured support and guidance from higher-level teachers.
They are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs and may assist in policy development and co-curricular activities.ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area;Participating in parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum areas.Conditions of EmploymentAll staff employed by the Department have access to a broad range of employment conditions.Appointment of successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory pre-employment conditions check.A probationary period may apply during the first year of employment.VIT LANTITETo be eligible for employment, a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching and must demonstrate passing the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements.
