What you'll be doingThe SCHN SafeHaven Mental Health Clinician will provide high quality recovery orientated, trauma informed support in collaboration with Peer Suicide Prevention Workers to young people aged up to 18 years who use the SafeHaven.
The SCHN SafeHaven is a suicide prevention service that provides a warm welcoming space for young people experiencing suicidal crisis where compassionate care is provided in a non-clinical environment.
The SafeHaven aims to provide an alternative to attending an emergency department when distressed by suicidal crisis.
The SafeHaven Mental Health Clinician is the Senior on shift who provides clinical support and oversight for the Suicide Prevention Peer Workers delivering the service.
The Peer Workers provide specialist person centred and compassionate care to young people at risk of suicide and their families and connect young people to support services to address their underlying factors contributing to their distress.
The SafeHaven operates a variety of times and shifts.
Shift work, including weekends, and attendance at meetings, supervision and training is a requirement of the role.
The SafeHaven Mental Health Clinician will ensure co-design with people who have a lived experience of suicidal crisis is central to all aspects of the service and ensuring all activities are unpinned by Recovery Orientated Practices, Trauma Informed Care, Strengths based approaches and person centred care.
The role has a particular emphasis on working collaboratively with consumers to access clinical services if required.
Other activities may include safety, recovery and wellness planning, individual support, advocacy, collaborative identification of community support, follow up and support to access other services to address situational distress.
The position holder will be responsible for actively promoting the SafeHaven service and enhancing the partnerships and referral pathways with the key stakeholders to address situational distress.
Essential RequirementsTertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership as per essential requirements.ExperiencePost graduate experience in delivery of suicide prevention support services with focus on situational distress, recovery orientated service provision, trauma informed care, safety planning and managing risk.Teamwork & LeadershipAbility to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including providing leadership to Suicide Prevention Workers (peer & clinical) and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.Communication SkillsExcellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clinical services throughout all organisational levels to enhance pathways and transfer between care settings.Education & SupervisionAbility to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence in suicide prevention, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff.Quality ImprovementThe ability to initiate, lead, complete co-design quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.Professional DevelopmentDemonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.Technical SkillsStrong computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office and experience with relevant Health related computer programs.SCHN is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values diversity - we acknowledge the vibrancy that a diverse workforce brings to enhance both our workplace culture and our service delivery to children, young people and their families and carers.
