Assistant Director, Media

Reporting to the Media Director, the Assistant Director will support the media team to deliver consistent, quality and timely media advice, materials and services.
The Assistant Director role is a pivotal leadership position.
You will be part of a media team committed to continual improvement and as an exponent of best practice.
The media team plays a critical role in supporting Ministers' offices (MOs), the Executive and policy and program areas in the effective communication of portfolio policies, programs and outcomes.
The key duties of the position include: Responsibilities of the Assistant Director may include:
Working with internal stakeholders and our MOs to develop proactive media opportunities for our portfolio.
Responding promptly, accurately and effectively to media enquiries.
Preparing media materials, including media releases, talking points, speeches, advice, strategies and plans, and other products as required.
Managing and developing staff so they reach their full potential.
Leading special projects and other work as required.
Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
This is a designated security assessed position.
The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool.
The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
Qualifications and Education A degree in communications, journalism or a related field is required.
