Senior Category Specialist – Voltage Reactive Power Systems & Power Quality Location: Brisbane, Australia
Compensation: AUD 216k - 230k base salary (Total package up to AUD 260k with relocation assistance)

Join a leading energy organization as a Senior Category Specialist, where you'll play a pivotal role in designing and executing strategies to optimize voltage control, power quality, and reactive power systems.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Category Specialist, you'll develop and lead sourcing and integration strategies to meet critical network needs in voltage control and reactive power management.
Your expertise will directly contribute to optimizing network stability and ensuring the seamless integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind.
You'll be the go-to authority for voltage and power quality systems, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including OEMs and consultants, to deliver solutions that align with best practices and business goals.
Core Responsibilities:
• Strategy & Implementation: Develop, standardize, and deploy strategies for voltage control and reactive power management to meet business requirements.
Lead the design, factory testing, and commissioning of systems to ensure they meet high performance and quality standards.
• Stakeholder Influence: Act as the primary interface for voltage control and power quality requirements, liaising with cross-functional teams, including Network Planning, Asset Strategies, and Project Execution, to optimize system planning and performance.
• Risk Mitigation: Identify and address risks associated with voltage instability, particularly low-frequency oscillations and other challenges in renewable integrations.
Provide expert recommendations to stakeholders and lead initiatives to implement effective risk management strategies.
• Technical Leadership: Guide planning, design, and equipment sizing for voltage and reactive power systems.
Be responsible for all stages from procurement to site energization, ensuring alignment with network standards.
• Supplier Management: Cultivate strong partnerships with key suppliers.
Conduct factory inspections and manage approvals, audits, and performance reviews to maintain high-quality sourcing of equipment and materials.
• Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and optimize sourcing strategies, incorporating best practices and emerging technologies to drive efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and risk management.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Experience: Minimum 5 years in a similar role within large and complex electricity transmission systems, with demonstrated expertise in designing SVCs, Statcoms, and reactive power systems.
• Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HV substation design, layout, and integration, including transformers, circuit breakers, auxiliary transformers, and reactive power control systems.
• Project Leadership: Proven experience leading complex projects and coordinating technical teams, with an ability to handle equipment testing, integration, and defect management.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex systems and technical challenges, apply strategic thinking, and develop solutions that optimize network performance and stability.
• Commercial Acumen: Experience in supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and procurement strategy, ensuring optimal balance between cost, risk, and performance.
• Language Proficiency: Fluent in English, with strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams and with external partners.
