About the Role:Are you an English teacher eager to make a real impact on students' lives?
Tradewind is partnering with a college that collaborates with Youth Justice Precincts and Secure Care Units in Melbourne's West.
Starting in 2025, you'll have the opportunity to work with students aged 15-18 in small class settings, benefiting from excellent teacher support and well-being initiatives.
This role would involve teaching English to students, with a preparedness to tailor lessons to students' abilities.The goal is to provide high-quality education tailored to the needs of young people in custody, in collaboration with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, as well as the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.This college serves some of Victoria's most vulnerable yet inspiring youth, brimming with potential.

Please get in touch to discuss this wonderful opportunity in more detail.Key duties: Designing and delivering lessons that focus on developing advanced language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing under the Victorian Curriculum.Teaching concepts of text analysis, interpreting literature, discussing themes, characters, and literary techniques, and fostering a deeper appreciation for literature, writing sophisticated essays, engaging in debates, and delivering presentations.Introducing students to a wide range of literary genres and texts from various cultural and historical contexts.Teaching grammar, syntax, and language conventions to help students refine their writing and communication skills.Encouraging critical thinking and analysis of texts by teaching students to question, evaluate, and interpret information critically.Nurturing students' creativity and imagination through activities such as creative writing workshops, poetry analysis, and storytelling exercises.Teaching students research skills and methodologies to conduct independent inquiries and investigations.Collaborating with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and best practices for teaching first language English effectively.Skills & Experience: Must have unrestricted working rights in Australia.Current VIT registration.Demonstrate previous experience in teaching Secondary English in a school setting in Australia.Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).Offering: Full-time, starting from Term 1, 2025.Ongoing opportunity.Instructing students from ages 15-18.Small classes of 5-8 students with a Youth Justice member present at all times.Dedicated well-being team for the teachers.No after school meetingsWork within an English specialist teaching team.Collaborating with approachable and transparent leadership.Salary aligned with demonstrated expertise and time dedication.The School:The College is dedicated to providing education in a unique environment focused on helping students develop and change their trajectories.
Teachers employ High Impact Engagement Strategies (HIES) and High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) within a Trauma-Informed and Culturally Responsive framework, encouraging students to grow as individuals.To support staff, the College has integrated wellbeing programs that address the stresses of teaching.
Teachers meet biweekly in wellbeing groups led by a clinician and can access individual sessions with the wellbeing team.
