TAS/DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY SECONDARY TEACHERPosted on 19th November, 2024Position Title: Secondary Teacher – TAS / Design & Technology Award: Independent schools NSW MEA 2017-2021Responsible to: Head of SchoolTHE SCHOOLLorien Novalis Steiner School is situated in the Hills District of Sydney, about 45 minutes to the northwest of the city, nestled in over 6 hectares of lush bushlands and landscaped gardens. The school has been offering a rich and creative Steiner curriculum for over 50 years and has built a strong reputation for the diverse and engaging education that it provides.THE POSITIONTo provide caring, creative, and engaging educational programs in TAS/Design & Technology education for Secondary students working with the pedagogical and artistic indications of Rudolf Steiner and the Lorien Novalis' ethos.We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Steiner teacher to instruct a variety of practical TAS subjects, including Stage 6 Design and Technology. This role involves preparing materials for different TAS subjects across various classes within the school. Experience in delivering these courses is highly valued.At Lorien Novalis School, we offer a wide array of hands-on initiatives that engage all students in practical projects, fostering a positive learning environment that accommodates individual needs and abilities. Our design activities include Woodwork, Metalwork, Jewellery Making, Textiles, Carving, and Set Design construction, and we welcome expertise in other areas the successful candidate may bring.EMPLOYMENT BASISThis role could be suitable for a student teacher who is finishing an education degree or an existing experienced Teacher. It could be part-time from 0.2 upwards to full-time. The school will provide mentoring and training opportunities for those who are new to Steiner Education.ROLE RESPONSIBILITIESPrepare the classroom for class activities.Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instructional activities that promote active learning.Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.Instruct and supervise students in the use of learning materials and equipment.Observe, support, and evaluate students' performance and development.Utilize relevant technology to enhance instruction.Manage student behaviour effectively in the classroom.Assess and manage risks appropriately.Communicate necessary information regularly with students, colleagues, and parents as needed.Attend meetings, training sessions, and school functions as required, and perform regular duties such as playground supervision.Carry out other duties as directed by the Principal.KEY COMPETENCIESA genuine passion for design across various contexts, with the ability to inspire young people to appreciate the design and creative process.Experience teaching students to work with different materials in practical projects.Knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining a range of machinery.Proficiency in preparing materials for diverse projects.Familiarity with a variety of technologies to support teaching and professional responsibilities.Strong understanding of contemporary WHS procedures and obligations.Ability to plan and implement course delivery across multiple TAS subjects.Appropriate qualifications and eligibility to teach in accordance with NSW law and school policy.Comprehensive knowledge of effective teaching strategies tailored to student needs.Deep understanding of curriculum requirements, with the ability to create and deliver engaging and well-structured teaching activities.Commitment to educational excellence and alignment with the ethos and values of Lorien Novalis School.PREFERRED COMPETENCIESSkills in metalwork, including welding, fabrication, and forging, or a willingness to learn.Competence or a willingness to undergo supported training in the application of digital technologies.PERSONAL ATTRIBUTESA vibrant intellect with a strong interest in personal development.A deep commitment to the welfare of young people, with the ability to connect warmly and confidently with students.A collegial and flexible approach to collaboration.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organisational and planning abilities.A strong work ethic with a proactive, "can-do" attitude.Initiative, maturity of judgment, and resilience.Willingness to contribute to school programs and activities beyond the curriculum, that may include out-of-hours commitments such as Class Trips.APPLICATIONSApply in writing by emailing one PDF document that includes your resume, three referees, qualifications, WWCC and a covering letter addressing the selection criteria to:The closing date for applications is Monday 9th December 2024Earlier expressions of interest will be considered upon receipt, which may lead to interviews before the closing date.
