About the Student Wellbeing Services The Student Wellbeing Services offer support to students at all Western Sydney University campuses.
The Counselling Service provides proactive and responsive services to students in need to address immediate, ongoing and emerging issues.
About the Opportunity We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Advisor / Relief Counsellor to join our Counselling and Wellbeing team.
At Western Sydney University, our Mental Health Advisors and Counsellors play a crucial role in supporting students' personal and academic journeys by providing tailored services to help them overcome challenges and successfully complete their studies.
As a Mental Health Advisor, you will: Act as the first responder for students and staff of the university by providing case management, consultation and advice where concerning student behaviour is identified acting as an operational conduit between the student and available support services.
Provide direct support services to students managing more complex mental health issues, using tailored and varying modes of delivery.
Collaborate with the Clinical Advisory Team to implement prevention strategies aligned with the University's Wellbeing Service model and Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Serve as a specialist consultant to university staff, offering expert advice and participating in case management discussions and multidisciplinary meetings.
As a Counsellor, you will: Provide a range of professional counselling services to assist students with personal and academic challenges, helping them to complete their studies and the provision of prevention strategies to meet the key identified requirements of students.
Develop and deliver prevention strategies and initiatives that address students' key mental health needs.
Support and contribute to mental health initiatives within the Counselling and Wellbeing team to promote a proactive, student-centred approach to mental health.
Please note that the role also involves responding to after-hours calls on a rostered basis.
This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Western's Parramatta South campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required.

Who we're looking for We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Mental Health Advisor / Counsellor (registered Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, or AASW-accredited Social Worker) to join our team.
Registration with AHPRA, or AASW as a MH Social Worker is required for this role.
In addition to your registration, you will also need a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience to be successful in obtaining an interview.
You will have extensive experience in risk assessment and the provision of wellbeing services.
Mental Health Advisors use a range of approaches in their practice including; Brief Solution Focused therapy via a range of mediums including face-to-face, online and phone.
You will have extensive experience with complex mental health conditions, the management of these conditions and appropriate referral skills.
Your ability to deliver support in an ever-changing environment will be well regarded.
Working with Children Check: It is a mandatory requirement for any incumbent of this position to have a current NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance in accordance with the NSW Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
