Based in Brisbane CBD, the Finance Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the financial operations at JPS, managing a team of payroll and accounts specialists, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
This role involves leadership, financial analysis, and the execution of financial strategies to support business goals.
The key responsibilities, skills, and experience required are:
Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership and Management: Supervising the Finance Team: Leads and manages the payroll and accounts team, including payroll officers and accounts payable/receivable officers, ensuring their tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
Training and Development: Provides guidance, training, and mentoring to team members, helping them grow in their roles and ensuring the team has the skills necessary to perform at a high level.
Work Allocation: Assigns tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that deadlines are met and that workloads are balanced across the team.
Internal Controls: Oversees the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal financial controls to safeguard the business's assets, ensure compliance, and prevent fraud.
Financial Reporting and Analysis: Financial Statements: Oversees the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Leads the budgeting process, working with JPS Directors to develop annual budgets, prepare financial forecasts and cash flows based on business needs and goals.
Variance Analysis: Reviews financial performance by comparing actual results with the budget, investigating variances, and recommending corrective actions.
Management Reporting: Prepares and presents financial reports and analysis to JPS Directors, providing insights into financial performance and offering strategic recommendations.
Financial Planning and Strategy: Financial Strategy Development: Works with JPS Directors to develop financial strategies that align with business long-term goals, assisting with identifying areas for cost reduction or revenue growth.
Cash Flow Management: Monitors and manages business cash flow to ensure that financial obligations can be met.
Investment Planning: May assist JPS Directors in making company decisions regarding investments, acquisitions, or capital expenditures, evaluating the financial implications of these moves.
Financial Partner Management: Manages relationships with accountants, specialists, banks, and financial institutions.
Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensuring Compliance: Ensures that the business complies with financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards.
This includes overseeing audits and tax filings, ensuring the business adapts to new requirements promptly.
Risk Management: Identifies and mitigates financial risks, ensuring that proper internal controls are in place to safeguard the interests of the business.
Audit Coordination: Coordinates both internal and external audits, ensuring that financial records are accurate and that all required documentation is provided.
Process Improvement: Efficiency Improvements: Identifies opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes within the team, including automating routine tasks or improving reporting methods.
System Optimisation: Works with accounting software specialists i.e.
Xero to optimise systems and ensure that the team has the tools needed to perform their jobs effectively.
Skills Required: Ethics and Integrity: Upholds the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity in all financial dealings.
Ensures transparency and accountability within the finance team, adhering to all legal requirements and internal policies.
Leadership and People Management: The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a finance team, ensuring collaboration and high performance.
Financial Expertise: In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, spot trends, and make recommendations for improvements or strategies.
Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in financial reporting, compliance, and financial analysis.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting to JPS Directors, collaborating with other departments, and our clients.
Problem Solving and Decision Making: The ability to solve complex financial problems and make strategic financial decisions that support the organisation's objectives.
Technical Proficiency: High-level proficiency with financial software and systems (e.g., Xero, Google Workspace, financial modelling tools).
Experience: 5+ years in a Finance Team Leader role This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health of the business by managing the finance team, producing accurate financial reports, and overseeing the day-to-day financial operations.
