THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF POLICE MANAGEMENTEstablished in 1960, the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM) is a tertiary accredited education organisation with an extensive history of offering postgraduate and professional leadership development programs targeted at senior officers and executives from the policing and public safety sector.
The AIPM is a recognised and respected global leader in the development and delivery of education and development for executives and organisations involved in the innovative provision of policing, law enforcement, security, public safety, emergency services and related professions.
The AIPM is administered by the AFP and is a National Common Police Service, overseen by a Board comprising Police Commissioners from across Australia and New Zealand, chaired by the AFP Police Commissioner.
Key DutiesThe Executive Director of the AIPM reports administratively to the AFP Executive and is responsible for the effective leadership and management of the Institute.
In this role, you will lead a small group of dedicated education and administrative professionals and be responsible for the seamless delivery of contemporaneous executive education, with a focus on ensuring it meets the current and emerging leadership capability development needs of the policing and public safety sector.
To be successful in this role you will have exceptional management, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills and have a proven ability to develop and maintain partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
You will be adept at understanding the business model of the organisation, and its function within the AFP. You will also apply your commercial acumen to identify opportunities for innovation, business growth and consolidation. You will drive sustainable change across all elements of the business model whilst maintaining focus on providing value and return on investment, and on maintaining and building the organisation's reputation of excellence in education and leadership development.
Proven management experience in adult education delivery, a passion for leadership education and a comprehensive knowledge of the policing environment and its cultural and operating frameworks is essential. Demonstrated political acumen and a deep capacity to work effectively across all levels of government will be required, to ensure the organisational outputs of the AIPM are achieved in accordance with its values, regulatory frameworks and the AFP's financial and governance requirements.
What Will You DoStrategically manage the organisation with a focus on ensuring its sustainability and future viability.Identify and activate opportunities for innovation and growth across all elements of the enterprise.Provide advice to, and work with, the AIPM Board on the strategic direction for police leadership, executive development and Institute programs.Seek guidance, governance and risk management advice from the AIPM Business Advisory Committee to ensure and safeguard the financial stability of the organisation.Collaborate and seek educational input from the heads of police education through the AIPM Executive Leadership Capability Advisory Committee, on the breadth and focus of the AIPM's leadership development products and activities.Proactively develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and clients.Ensure AIPM products meet the current and future leadership capability needs of police jurisdictions.Guide alignment of Pacific Faculty of Policing programs and initiatives to AFP priorities and focus.Actively contribute to the development of high-quality leadership programs and activities.Co-facilitate online and residential classroom sessions across various leadership programs.Host police and public safety executives, leaders and visiting delegations as required.Be a member of the AFP Strategic Leadership Committee and attend all relevant leadership group meetings as required.All AFP appointees ensure that the achievement of outcomes is in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance instruments.
