Rates: $110 - $140 per hour (inc. super)
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a statutory agency in the Defence portfolio that defends Australia against global threats and advances our national interests through the provision of foreign signals intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber operations as directed by the Australian Government.
ASD requires a System Administrator to provide system administration support under general direction in a key capability domain.
Key duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Lead the installation, configuration and sustainment of Linux based ICT infrastructure (physical and cloud based), including servers and/or network devicesUse automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible and others to prepare and replicate system buildsConfigure and sustain core services for systems including monitoring, syslog or authenticationMaintain reliability of ICT infrastructure - this includes configuration automation, upgrading and patching, monitoring, along with utilising version control systemsCommunicate with diverse stakeholder groups in technical and business process termsMaintain technical documentation in accordance with industry standardsContribute to the preparation of software implementation procedures, including contingency plansMonitoring operational systems for usage and failure rates, resolving issues as they ariseTechnical Skills required:
Demonstrated experience with Apache NIFI Demonstrated experience with Atlassian software such as JIRA and ConfluenceDemonstrated experience in the use of application management software and toolsCandidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.
ASD, at its discretion, prior to commencing work or any time while work is performed, require the candidate to participate in an OSA.
An OSA is an ASD policy requirement and is conducted to determine a person's suitability to work for ASD.
The OSA requires a psychological assessment, which involves a questionnaire and interview.

Essential Criteria IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA): Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures.
Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates.
Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines.
Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics.
Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure.
Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards.
Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues.
Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.Problem management: Level 3 (SFIA): Investigates problems in systems, processes and services.
Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.Programming/software development: Level 2 (SFIA): Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts.
Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
Reviews own work.Systems design: Level 4 (SFIA): Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology.
Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs.
Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements.
Models, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders.
Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems.
Reviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.Systems installation and removal: Level 4 (SFIA): Undertakes or supervises complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client.
Develops procedures and standards for installation and handover to maintain and improve the installation service.
Schedules installation work around client priorities and resource availability.
