Hester Hornbrook Academy is a Special Assistance School which provides flexible education and learning options, including VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools), VPC (Victorian Pathways Certificate), VM (VCE Vocational Major), VCE and an extend program offering a variety of elective subjects.
Recognising that mainstream education is not suitable for all young people, our programs are driven by the personal pursuits of students.
Our students include those who have disengaged from mainstream education, are young parents, currently in or leaving out of home care, experiencing homelessness, and those who may be experiencing mental health challenges or learning difficulties.

Job Purpose:
The Wellbeing and Learning Team Leader is a key member of the Campus Leadership Team that directly supports the Head of Campus with the daily operations of the campus.
This includes leading Wellbeing for Learning and Learning for Wellbeing across the campus to ensure an equal balance of both in line with our Healing Orientated Program of Education (HOPE).
The Wellbeing and Learning Team Leader will work alongside the Head of Campus and other leaders within the school to ensure the development of local networks to support external referral pathways for young people.
They will also provide support and advice to all contractors and visitors involved in direct work with young people, to ensure young people are provided expert support in addressing wellbeing needs to support their learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support campus staff to ensure all practices across the campus are operating in line with our Healing Orientated Program of Education (HOPE) model.
Lead the facilitation of Hester Hornbrook's HOPE approaches including: Restorative Framework, Classroom practice model, and other key pieces of work to increase attendance and engagement in wellbeing and learning and positive pathways.
Work collaboratively within the campus leadership team to support the daily operations of the campus by leading student incidents including critical incidents, child safety including mandatory reporting and duty of care compliance, risk assessments and supporting staff wellbeing.
Lead and develop the practice of the Classroom Youth Workers and Senior Youth Workers on campus to ensure wellbeing support provided by the model Wellbeing for Learning.
Through purposeful mentoring, lead the development of Senior Youth Workers to develop their capacity to support campus leaders when required.
Key Selection Criteria:
Tertiary qualifications in youth work, education or a related discipline, and/or experience in the community services/education sector, working with young people with complex needs.
Experience in leadership/management and demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team working in a community services or educational context with the ability to oversee a range of crisis interventions and management strategies to young people.
Understanding of the educational landscape as experienced by young people experiencing challenges.
Essential requirements of all candidates:
Computer literacy, including proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programs.
Understanding of relevant legislation, including Child Safe Standards as they are relevant to a Senior Secondary School setting and satisfactory completion of safety screening including a National Police check, International Police check (if required), and the right to work in Australia.
Desirable:
Current Training and Assessment (TAE) qualifications for teaching of VETiS programs is highly desirable.
