Selection Criteria KSC 1: Direct counselling experience

KSC 4: Communication Skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders, including students, school staff, and Student Support Services staff, to help provide support to students.
KSC 5: Leadership and professional learning
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and professional learning to others, such as teachers and other school wellbeing staff, to build the capacity of schools to improve students' learning and developmental outcomes, including delivering presentations, providing one-to-one advice on certain issues, or other activities.
KSC 6: Demonstrated ability to meet relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information and privacy.
Role The Wellbeing Coordinator will effectively implement and take responsibility for the Schools Wellbeing Programs.
They lead and oversee the work of the School's Wellbeing Team, working closely with the Schools House Team to ensure that the wellbeing of all students, particularly those identified at risk or requiring additional support are nurtured and supported.
The Allied Health professional - Student Wellbeing Coordinator will lead the Student Wellbeing Team and work closely with the Schools Disability Inclusion & Student Support Team at Blackburn High School.
They are accountable to the Principal through the Assistant Principal, Student Transition, Inclusion and Wellbeing.
The Allied Health professional will work closely with the Schools Mental Health Practitioner to ensure the school cares and caters for the wellbeing needs of all students.
Under the direction of the Assistant Principal, Student Transition, Inclusion and Wellbeing the Student Wellbeing Coordinator will provide:
Case Management Support
Respond to student wellbeing consultations and referrals in collaboration with the Team by undertaking assessment, developing clear plans and engaging all stakeholders in the implementation of support strategies.
Liaise with DE Regional and school-based Student Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion & Student Support staff and with external agencies, as appropriate, to provide support, advocacy, referral and information as required for assessment and/or ongoing case management.
Maintain comprehensive and confidential data collection and records related to student case management plans.
Support the development of mandated Individual Education Plans (IEPs); Convene and participate in Student Behaviour Support Plan meetings and Student Support Groups (SSGs) as required.
Staff Consultation and Professional Learning:
Provide consultation, advice and guidance to teachers in undertaking their role as Mentor and/or as a class teacher of identified students.
Assist in the provision of appropriate professional learning and/or organisation of external consultants to meet staff needs in the area of student wellbeing.
Compile and maintain resources on student wellbeing and mental health; promoting availability to teachers.
Whole School Wellbeing Guidance and Programs:
Participate in Wellbeing Team planning and review of evidence to inform Blackburn High School's student wellbeing policy, procedure and program responses.
Participate in planning and delivery of whole school, evidence-based wellbeing initiatives developed through school-wide consultation in response to student needs; and priorities that are consistent with the Strategic and Annual Implementation Plan.
Contribute to the development and delivery of targeted programs with students and parents/carers, including preparing submissions to funding bodies and planning, implementing and evaluating these programs.
Provide school level advice related to areas such as mental health, drug education, mandatory reporting, critical incidents and suicide prevention.
Develop and maintain networks with relevant youth and community agencies to assist young people and their parents/carers in gaining access to services.
Colleagues/Teams:
The Wellbeing Coordinator will be an integral member of the Wellbeing Team.
The Wellbeing Team & Disability Inclusion & Student Support Team members work in close collaboration with House Leaders and Learning Area Leaders to deliver coordinated responses to students.
Responsibilities The responsibilities and duties of this position include (but are not limited to):
Collaborate with the Wellbeing Team to develop, implement and review an annual Action Plan.
Prepare an annual budget which is aligned to the Action Plan.
Care for the wellbeing and emotional needs of the whole school community by way of confidential counselling and support.
Provide counselling and/or support to students, their families and staff where appropriate.
Be involved in crisis intervention and trauma support.
Keep appropriate confidential records of counselling contacts within the guidelines of your training.
Provide monthly reports to the Principal Team.
Collaborate with the Assistant Principal Student Transition, Inclusion and Wellbeing and House Leadership Teams to develop and deliver programs to target specific presenting student issues.
Evaluate these programs.
Collaborate with the House Leadership Teams to develop mentor program activities.
Lead the development of educational programs and assist in delivering positive classroom and extra curricula programs that promote and improve student wellbeing, safety, resilience, engagement and connectedness, across the school (e.g.
peer support, restorative practice and personal development programs).
Collaborate and/or consult with the Assistant Principal, House Leadership Teams and/or Pathways Coordinator in regard to these programs.
Collaborate with the Assistant Principal, House Leadership Teams, mentor teachers and classroom teachers to develop individual plans and/or programs for identified students to address their personal needs.
Provide information and feedback to the Assistant Principal, House Leadership Teams and/or Pathways Coordinator regarding individual student's needs, issues and concerns.
Assist in the development of effective learning and wellbeing programs that can be implemented for students at risk.
Provide regular and confidential feedback and updates to the Assistant Principal about students being assisted.
Lead the implementation of the Student Engagement, Behaviour Management & Wellbeing Policy in consultation with the Assistant Principal and House Leadership Teams.
Liaise with the Assistant Principal and the Disability Inclusion & Student Support Leader and Educational Psychologists regarding DI funding, testing of students and liaison with other agencies.
Provide information and advice to staff, parents and students upon request, including coordination and referral to DE Student Support Services, other Government agencies and alternative education/training/employment programs.
Participate in school based and external professional development sessions as appropriate.
These sessions should assist in achieving the Action Plan.
Assist with staff PD/training programs organised by the school.
Be an active participant in weekly Wellbeing Team meetings, taking responsibility for the agenda and minutes.
Coordinate Cairnmillar provisional psychologist student placements and other relevant pre-service wellbeing specialist placements (social workers, youth workers etc).
Mentor these students through providing supervision, debriefing, referrals, arranging bookings, as well as liaison with students and Cairnmillar supervisors.
Participate in meetings of local and/or networks of school wellbeing coordinators.
Perform other duties as directed by the Principal Team and/or Business Manager.
