The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia is seeking an experienced, strategic professional to lead its successful communication and events program.
Our ideal candidate will be someone with a proven track record in strategic communications; ideally with experience in the research and higher education sector, and with a willingness to apply this knowledge in creative ways to promote the work of Academy Fellows and to celebrate and advance the social sciences across the Academy's activities.
They will have the energy and initiative to develop new and existing partnerships and funding streams, and to create new avenues for sharing and celebrating social science research in Australia and more broadly.
The successful candidate will lead a small but effective team of communications and events professionals based in Canberra and interstate, and will be a core member of the Academy's leadership team.
Key fixtures throughout the year include:
Social Sciences Week – 8-14 September, with Academy and partner events taking place online and throughout the country.Academy lectures and symposia, many convened with partner organisations.The Academy's New Fellows' celebrations and annual dinner in November.This position is based at the Academy's National Office in central Canberra.
There is flexibility in hours and working arrangements to accommodate life and family requirements, and a willingness to consider full- or part-time arrangements (at a minimum 0.7FTE) as well as a job-share arrangement (up to 1.2FTE) for the right candidates.
Conditions include:

About the Academy The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia is an independent, non-government organisation committed to recognising and championing excellence in the social sciences and providing evidence-based advice on a range of social policy issues.
The Academy comprises of an elected Fellowship of over 700 distinguished Australian social science researchers and professionals who work together to:
