Position OverviewThe Deputy Associate is part of a team who assist the Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court.
The role of the Deputy Associate is to assist the Associate and deputise for them when they are on leave.
This position does not involve exposure to family law matters.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesThe Deputy Associate works closely with, and is supervised by, Judge Lucev's Associate.
The role of the Deputy Associate includes, but is not limited to:
Court attendance, including the provision of administrative assistance in the courtroom. Assisting Judge Lucev's Associate in the day-to-day management of chambers (including the preparation of correspondence, liaising with practitioners and court staff, using the Court's case management system, and assisting with docket management). Preparing court orders. Undertaking complex legal research and writing, and proofreading of judgments as required by Judge Lucev. Managing chambers in the absence of the Associate. Other duties as required. Formal QualificationLLB or JD or graduand with credit plus average.

Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to undertake legal research and legal writing. Strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to communicate with people at all levels. Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to manage several processes at once. The ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities. Tolerance, diligence, and the ability to work as a member of a small team. A high standard of ethical behaviour. EligibilityEmployment with the Court is subject to the requirement of the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth).
The following is also required:
Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must be an Australian citizen unless the Chief Operating Officer waives that requirement. National Police Check – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment. Health clearance – the successful applicant must be fit for duties, is required to complete a health declaration, and may be required to attend a medical assessment to confirm their fitness for duty.
