Ideal for a logistics or transport professional, this role is perfect for someone who's confident working with diverse freight profiles and passionate about improving operational processes.
As Operations assistant/ Yard Supervisor, you'll report to the State Manager and work closely with the operations manager to take charge of coordinating yard activities for both local and interstate operations.
Leading a team of forklift drivers and strappers, you'll ensure that freight is loaded, unloaded, and delivered safely and on time.
This hands-on role requires a proactive approach to safety, operational improvements, and effective collaboration across departments to achieve team goals.
Key Responsibilities:Supervise and manage the Forklift driving team, providing clear leadership and guidance.Operate forklifts (Forklift license required) and manage truck movements around the depot.Assist with linehaul coordination and oversee freight receipt and dispatch.Hands on work in the warehouse, this is not just a desk job.Ensure compliance with safety regulations, implementing initiatives to promote a safe work environment.Optimise depot layout and storage to maximise space utilisation.Manage driver paperwork, manifest trailers, and enter customer data for daily collections.Collaborate with the State and Operations Manager and other internal departments to meet operational objectives.Oversee freight receipt, dispatch, and linehaul coordination ensuring freight is handled safely and efficiently.Communicate daily operations with schedulers and assist in other departments when needed.Provide clear, concise leadership, giving feedback and direction to team members.About You:2-3 years of experience in transport delivery and forklift operations.Current Forklift License, MC Licence highly desirable.Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and effectively communicate with your team.Strong time management skills and the ability to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.Experience in scheduling, rostering, and driving operational process improvements.A passionate advocate for promoting a strong safety culture.Experienced leader in transport operations with a proactive approach to relationship management.Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.Positive, can-do attitude with excellent teamwork skills.Ability to thrive in high-volume, dynamic environments.Willingness to undergo a pre-employment exam and police check.Solid understanding of load restraint, Chain of Responsibility regulations, and Dangerous Goods handling is a plus.Strong leadership qualities with the ability to provide clear direction, feedback, and instructions.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and efficiently.What we offer:A competitive hourly rate above the award.Career development opportunities in a growing business with a national footprint.Work with modern, well-maintained equipment in a fast-growing, national company.Enjoy job security and career growth opportunities within a company known for its commitment to excellence in interstate freight and Road Express.Supportive and inclusive team culture, proactive leadership, and a strong focus on safety practices.A full-time position, Monday to Friday 8.00am – 5.00pm.Are you ready to make an impact in a growing business?
