Expressions Of Interest For Membership Of The Australian Technical Advisory Group On Immunisation

The Department of Health and Aged Care is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to fill vacancies on the non-statutory advisory committee, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). This committee is a ministerially appointed advisory group,comprised of representatives with a mix of research, clinical and implementation expertise. Terms of appointment are for up to 4 years, commencing 1 July 2025. ATAGI provides evidence-based advice on immunisation policies, programs and priorities to the Australian Government Minister for Health and Aged Care. This includes:providing technical input to policy development through epidemiological reviews, promotion of research, and assessment of the evidence for vaccination programs;providing advice to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) in fulfilling its functions as set out in the National Health Act 1953, with respect to vaccines;producing the Australian Immunisation Handbook, meeting requirements set out by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).providing technical advice to support effective implementation and communication of the National Immunisation Program (NIP); andidentifying knowledge gaps and provide advice to national funding bodies on priorities for research to inform immunisation policy.Further information about ATAGI is provided in the 'Policies and procedures for the administration and governance of ATAGI', on the ATAGI website. Up to eight members are being sought with high level immunisation expertise from a range of fields (with fields of particular interest in bold text) including:PaediatricsGeneral practiceImmunology/immunosuppressionInfectious diseases, both adult and paediatric – particularly influenzaPublic healthMaternal immunisationPathologyEpidemiology/biostatistics/surveillanceMathematical modellingMicrobiologyVirologyNursingPharmacy GeriatricsFirst Nations peopleSpecial risk groupsCulturally and linguistically diverse populationsAssessment of vaccine efficacy and safetyVaccine administration in clinical practiceClinical or laboratory vaccine and immunisation researchersImmunisation service deliveryConsumer perspectives and/or the social and community aspects of immunisation programs.Travel vaccines Applicants from all Australian jurisdictions are encouraged to apply. ATAGI members are expected to actively participate and contribute to the work of the committee utilising their experience and expertise. Applicants from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations representatives are strongly encouraged to apply. Remuneration for ATAGI members is in accordance with the principles and rates set by the Remuneration Tribunal in its Determination: Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office.
