1 hour a week) Position Grade: Visiting Medical Officer Salary: As per the award Enterprise Agreement: Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014 Department Name: Alcohol and Drug Service Benefits of working at St Vincent's include: Generous salary packaging and Fitness Passport for eligible staff Opportunity to access a wide range of clinical and non-clinical education programs Supported post graduate opportunities within applicable fields Career development opportunities across the St Vincent's Health Australia Network Employee Assistance Program Work/Life balance About the role: The Visiting Medical Officer is expected to provide expert addiction medicine advice to health professionals on the clinical diagnosis and management of patients with alcohol and other drug concerns via the Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (DASAS).
The VMO supports health professionals across NSW without access to a local AOD specialist, particularly in regional and rural areas.
Advice will be provided via telephone support services and should encompass: Management of intoxication and withdrawal Advice on methadone and opiate treatments Interactions between medications and illicit drugs Management of other clinical concerns arising from AOD related issues Referral and treatment options around NSW The VMO will receive an on-call allowance for the rostered shift plus an allowance rate per call handled.
The VMO is also expected to participate in clinical review meetings in order to contribute to the maintenance of a high quality telephone advisory service.

Selection Criteria: Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Possess Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other relevant Australasian Specialist College.
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Addiction Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position.
Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.
Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.
