We are seeking a Chair, University Human Research Ethics Committee (UHREC) to join Office of the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research), Academic Division.
The Human Research Ethics Committee (UHREC) Chair oversees the function of the QUT HREC as outlined in the National Health and Medical Research Council National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2023 (National Statement), Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research, The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018, QUT Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and other relevant statements and guidelines to facilitate high quality research at QUT.
The UHREC Chair position is located within QUT's Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) and reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) through the Director, Office of Research Ethics and Integrity.
The role will work closely with the Director OREI and the Human Research Ethics Coordinator, and will receive administrative support from within that office.
The position has regular interaction with other relevant stakeholders across the University including the university research ethics advisory network and researchers, higher degree research students and their supervisors, senior management, other areas of the Research Portfolio, QUT Governance, Office of the General Counsel, and Health Safety and Environment Services.

What you need to succeed A research doctorate or equivalent with extensive experience in the conduct of human research.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2023 and other national and international guidance on ethical conduct.Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and to Chair senior level committees that involve complex decision making and policy formulation in an effective and efficient manner.Demonstrated ability to provide high-level advice to stakeholders to promote awareness and knowledge of ethical and regulatory frameworks that govern research involving humans.Demonstrated high level communication, consultation and mediation skills with an ability to communicate effectively, with influence, with a diverse group of stakeholders.Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team and to adopt a flexible work approach.Personal attributes of integrity, tact, sound judgment and respect for confidentiality.Life at QUT We're committed to building a culture that fosters connection between people and purpose.
