SQC's vision is to harness this groundbreaking technology to improve human life and drive transformative change worldwide.About the roleThe IT Systems Officer is responsible for providing technical support and ensuring the smooth operation of the organisation's IT systems.
This role includes managing day-to-day IT tasks across Windows, Mac, and Linux systems, addressing technical issues, assisting with the onboarding and offboarding of employees, and ensuring the security and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional service to team members.
You will report to the Head of Software Engineering.Key responsibilitiesTechnical Support & TroubleshootingProvide first-level support for hardware, software, and network-related issues.Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.Escalate complex problems to higher-level IT staff or external support providers as necessary.Ensure systems are patched, backed up, and recoverable from both data, configuration, and physical losses.Device & System ManagementSet up, configure, and maintain workstations, laptops, printers, and other office equipment.Manage IT inventory, including procurement, tracking, and disposal of outdated equipment.Install and update software applications as required.Manage compliance and policies across our fleet of IT systems.User Support & TrainingAssist employees with IT onboarding, including account setup, software access and deployment, and hardware allocation.Conduct basic training sessions for staff on IT tools, software, and security practices.Document and communicate IT policies and procedures to employees.Network & SecurityMonitor and maintain the organization's network, ensuring connectivity and performance, with help from other key stakeholders and specialists within the organisation.Support security protocols, including data backups, antivirus updates, and firewall monitoring.Assist in responding to and mitigating security incidents.Collaborate with external vendors and service providers for IT-related services and maintenance.Support IT-related projects, such as software migrations or infrastructure upgrades.Provide input on IT strategies to improve overall operational efficiency.ExperienceEducation: Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.Experience: 2+ years in a similar IT support role.Technical Skills:Demonstrated experience in Application management, Configuration Management, and Systems.Proficiency with Windows, Linux, and macOS environments (including application packaging, Intune and Entra management, and general Office 365 tooling).Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, Slack), and IT ticketing systems (e.g.
git, jira, github, gitlab).Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.Soft Skills:Excellent problem-solving and multitasking abilities.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Key Performance IndicatorsResponse time to IT support tickets.User satisfaction with IT support services.Uptime and reliability of IT systems and infrastructure.Compliance with security and data protection standards.Personal AttributesHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.Proactive and self-motivated with a positive attitude and mature outlook.Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across teams.LocationThe role is located at the University of New South Wales, Kensington campus; it is physical both to the assets requiring support and maintenance, and the staff of SQC are mostly physical and on-premise daily.At SQC, we are pioneering the future of quantum computing, with a focus on solving some of the world's most complex problems.
