Medical Laboratory Scientist Multidiscipinary Haematology And Chemistry

The Core Haematology unit performs full blood counts, blood film morphology, ESRs, malarial parasite screening, pre-analytical bone marrow procedures and includes the Malaria Reference Laboratory for confirmation of positive cases from across Queensland.
It also undertakes coagulation testing, together with investigation of thrombophilia and other bleeding disorders, foetomaternal haemorrhage, haemoglobinopathy and haemolytic disorders.
The Core Chemistry unit performs routine chemical pathology investigations, drugs of abuse testing and therapeutic drug monitoring, arterial blood gases, immunoassay investigations, selected serology and protein assays.

Key Competencies (Role Specific Criteria)Experience in the performance of Haematology, Coagulation and/or Chemistry investigations.Theoretical knowledge and understanding of Haematology, Coagulation and Chemistry principles and procedures.Proven ability to work independently, solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.Well-developed communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the multi-scientist shift roster and will be required to work a combination of day and afternoon shifts within each fortnight.
Qualifications, Registrations and Other RequirementsMinimum qualification for Health Practitioner Level 3 (HP3): The successful applicant must hold a relevant degree in science or equivalent from a recognised University or other tertiary institution.
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of service.
Overseas applicants are reminded that assessment of equivalence of qualifications is required.
The Central Core Laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service.
All newly appointed Core Laboratory staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required.
This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Core Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
