About the opportunity
The Discipline of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney is the only one of its nature in Australia, with programs in Modern Hebrew and Jewish Civilisation.
The Discipline is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer or Lecturer in Modern Hebrew .
Courses to be taught and coordinated will involve both language and literature components of Modern Hebrew, with students' fluency ranging from beginners to near-native speakers.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of teaching across all levels of Modern Hebrew fluency and demonstrated research experience within the field.
The position is full-time for a five-year fixed term and is structured between teaching (40%), research (40%) and governance, leadership and engagement (20%).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
coordinate and teach Modern Hebrew language and literature units, including developing materials for teaching and assessment adapt program needs with regard to curriculum development contribute to scholarship and research in the field of Modern Hebrew (such as through publications, grant applications and conference participation) supervise postgraduate students in the field of Modern Hebrew take part in administrative activities in the Discipline and serve on School and/or Faculty committees.
About you
native or near-native competency in Modern Hebrew and English in all skill areas postgraduate qualification in similar or related field demonstrated experience in teaching Modern Hebrew as an additional language (L2) at all levels (beginners to advanced) demonstrated success in promoting student retention and achieving high levels of language competency experience with multi-media, multi-modal and digital teaching methods ongoing commitment to scholarship and research need to be self-driven and capable of working in a team.
Highly advantageous would be
evidence of community involvement an interest in the methodology of teaching Modern Hebrew as an additional language (L2) to students intending to follow careers as teachers experience in teaching adult education and teacher in-services.
