About the Role The Centre for Defence Engineering Research and Training within Flinders University's College of Science and Engineering has an exciting new opportunity for a Technical Officer in Maritime Autonomy to join their research team.
Working with a collaborative team including a range of internal and external stakeholders, the Technical Officer will support research efforts to develop mechatronic systems for uncrewed surface and underwater vehicles.
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of specialised equipment and facilities.
To be successful in this role, the Technical Officer will:
Design, construct, program, test and commission specialised robotic equipment and embedded systems for maritime applications using engineering tools to specifications developed in collaboration with stakeholders.Carry out repairs, maintenance and calibration to commercial & in-house constructed laboratory equipment.Perform administrative functions including preparing technical documentation, keeping maintenance records, administering WHS policies, and preparing WHS compliance related documentation.The successful candidate is required to be: An Australian Citizen, eligible to gain an Australian Defence Clearance and meet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Citizens of allied nations may also consider applying.Capable of providing a National Police Clearance obtained within the last 3 months.And potentially attain, and maintain, an Australian Security clearance level NV1 as determined under the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).About You As the successful candidate, you will hold a tertiary degree in Robotics, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering with relevant experience.
You will have experience in designing innovative electronic and mechanical systems using appropriate CAD tools, with implementation through both in-house and external manufacturing processes.
Your strong attention to detail, coupled with excellent technical and analytical skills, will be key to your success.
Additionally, you will demonstrate:
Experience developing robotic and embedded systems using ROS/ROS2, Python, C/C++ (highly desired).Well-developed analytical skills together with the capacity to assess, understand, exercise technical judgment and communicate complex technical matters in a clear accurate manner.Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.Life at Flinders We're transforming and investing in people and facilities to create contemporary, stimulating, and satisfying learning and work environments that reflect our core values of excellence, innovation, courage, and integrity.
