The Senior R&D Manager – Sustainability leads a team of R&D Managers to deliver impactful projects, ensuring the future sustainability of Australian horticulture.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability R&D, this role drives high-impact R&D aligned with Hort Innovation's Strategic Plan.

This role manages a team of R&D Managers and their own R&D investment portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of R&D Managers to always ensure a high level of service through appropriate prioritisation, planning and execution.
Foster a high-performance culture within the team, driving collaboration and accountability and a consistent and high-quality service standard.
Identify R&D investments to deliver new knowledge, tools and skills for Australian horticultural industries that address priority issues and which are socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable.
Manage R&D investments throughout the project lifecycle, from investment scoping and design and tendering through to project management and supporting the delivery of investment objectives.
Identify opportunities across horticulture and multi-industry R&D investments focused on industry development to enable ongoing and future grower profitability.
Collaborate proactively to optimise the R&D program, align it with Strategic Investment Plans, and ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, and delivery of value through robust industry consultation and needs identification processes.
Experience and Capability Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in horticulture or agriculture, with recognised expertise in industry systems and standards.
Demonstrated leadership, facilitation and negotiation skills.
Capacity to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and successfully manage, coach, and mentor teams.
Highly adept at networking, with excellent communication skills and high levels of oral and written capability.
Demonstrated existing networks and ability to develop strong links within the sustainability and industry development research sector.
Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary and complex projects/programs.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including understanding of monitoring and evaluation metrics, business case and investment analysis.
