Job posted: 15/10/2024The Senior Advisor – Student Behaviour Response will support schools and department workplaces in managing complex, high-risk student behaviours that negatively impact staff health, safety, and wellbeing. They will provide risk management, advice, and referrals, while building schools' capacity to plan for and address these issues. Additionally, the advisor will connect schools with necessary training, supports, and services to effectively manage student behaviours of concern.Please note there are 2 positions available.About the DepartmentThe department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services. The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.About the DivisionThe Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division (ESWID) is committed to the Department's vision to create healthy and safe working and learning environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.ESWID performs its functions through five teams that span from prevention, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers' Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing.The objectives of the Division are to:promote positive wellbeing in learning and working environmentsprevent against known and expected risks to health, safety and wellbeingrespond swiftly and effectively to manage potential issues as they emerge and prevent injuriessupport employees to recover from injury and illness, and return to work.About the RoleThe Student Behaviours of Concern Team supports schools to ensure that appropriate and responsive strategies are in place to respond to complex and significant health, safety and wellbeing matters in schools that involve student behaviours of concern.The team provides specialist expertise, advice and support for effective physical and psychological risk management and safety plans.Based in the Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division, the Student Behaviours of Concern Team provides direct support to schools to:provide specialist expertise, advice and support to assist schools to prepare effective physical and psychological risk management and safety plansbuild school's confidence, and assist in risk planning and coordination of supports for student behaviours of concern, where there is significant impact on school staff and there are multiple, coordinated supports requiredaddress emerging critical safety risks, including systems for preventing and responding to work related violence and aggression due to student behaviours of concernliaise with other areas of the department to coordinate supports for schools managing students with behaviours of concern. This includes regions, Student Support Services, Legal Division and the Complex Matters Support Teamprovide case management support to schools managing students with complex behaviours of concern.The team also connects school leaders to relevant training, supports and services that they need to respond to complex safety or wellbeing problems that have resulted from student behaviours of concern, including mental health and wellbeing supports for impacted staff.Working as part of the Student Behaviours of Concern Team, the Senior Advisor – Student Behaviour Response will:provide coordinated support to schools and department workplaces in relation to complex and high risk health, safety and wellbeing issues resulting from student behaviours of concern that impact on staff.provide effective risk management, advice, guidance, referral and capability building in risk planning for complex and high risk issues related to student behaviours of concern where there is significant impact on school staff and there are multiple, coordinated supports requiredconnect schools with training, supports and services they need for managing student behaviours of concern that negatively affect staff health safety and wellbeingThe position will report to the Manager – Student Behaviours of Concern Team.AttributesThe required capabilities for the role are set out in the position description (see attachment).Qualifications and ExperienceDesirable: Relevant tertiary qualification or experience in OHS, education, social work, occupational therapy, student behaviour.Further InformationFor more details regarding this position please see attached position description for the capabilities to address in application.Applicants are asked to provide a statement of no more than two pages against the Key Selection Criteria including addressing the essential qualifications and experience listed.The department values diversity and inclusion in all forms - gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTIQ+, disability and neurodiversity.
