Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 / year
DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical legal professional to join our team as our first Legal Counsel. This role involves assisting with the review, drafting, and negotiating customer contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and supporting collections efforts. Additionally, it includes establishing and managing legal structures in new jurisdictions as the company expands.
This is a new role for us and will play an important part in how we manage our existing and future contract negotiations and obligations. It would be well suited to someone looking to move out of a law firm into a fast-growing startup, or someone doing a similar role in-house and looking for a new challenge.
The roleYour day to day here will look something like this: Customer Contract Management: Review, analyze, and draft customer contractsIdentify and address potential legal risks and liabilities within contractsNegotiate contract terms with customers as neededMaintain a centralized contract repository and ensure accurate contract trackingCompliance: Ensure that the company is in compliance with different customer requirementsConduct regular compliance audits and assessmentsDevelop and implement compliance policies and proceduresProvide guidance and training to employees on compliance mattersManage relationships with external compliance consultants or auditorsStay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standardsCollections: Assist with collections effortsReview and analyze collection-related documentsIdentify potential actions to recover outstanding debtsGlobal Legal Structure: Research and analyze legal requirements for establishing business operations in new jurisdictionsCoordinate with external legal counsel to establish necessary legal entities and structuresManage ongoing legal and compliance matters in foreign markets What we are looking forJuris Doctorate (JD) or equivalent legal degreeExperience in contract review, drafting, and negotiationExperience in compliance and risk managementExperience with employment law is an advantageExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail and ability to work independentlyStrong organisational and time management skillsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing About MutinexWe might be an early stage startup but we already have strong product market fit, household name clients (Samsung, Mars, CUB and ING to name a few) and millions in revenue.
Being early stage means we're also still pretty scrappy and you wouldn't be coming into a well-oiled machine, yet. But you would get a lot of opportunity to design, build and oil the machine until it's super oily.
We aren't aiming to be another Tech Unicorn because Unicorns aren't real. We are aiming (and confident of being) more like a real and really big animal that lives for a long time, like a Bowhead Whale.
Mutinex is a startup B2B SaaS platform that provides in-depth data analytics for marketers to better understand their ROI and make better decisions with future spend.
Founded in Australia, we've hit millions in ARR & have (very) recent funding ($5 million in May 2023 & $9.5 million in October 2023 backed by EVP, and most recently $17.5m) that we'll use for growing our team to continue to improve our product, bring in new customers and enable them to make better and more informed decisions.
We have a hybrid work environment with teams in Sydney, Melbourne and expanding into the US.
With a team of around 70 people, we value high-quality communication, strong opinions that are held loosely and people who can give and take feedback well.
Equity (ESOP) is offered to all staff on top of their salary and we also offer additional annual leave after 1 year of tenure (from 20 to 25 days a year) that continues to grow another day each year of service until you max out at 30 days per year.
