The Role
Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and skilled psychologist to lead a small team of psychologists in overseeing the delivery of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) psychological selection process by a contracted capability partner.
As part of the DFR executive team, the CPO is responsive to Director General DFR (DGDFR).

The position is responsible for:
Leading, developing and mentoring a small team of psychologists, including setting priorities, managing workload, and ensuring the achievement of expected outcomes.
Providing leadership, strategic advice and subject matter expertise on matters relating to ADF psychological selection, balancing the priorities of Defence and the DFR contracted capability partner.
Building strong interpersonal relationships with a range of military, civilian and contracted personnel including DGDFR and the DFR executive team, the Chief Medical Officer, single Service psychologists and personnel agencies, the DFR capability partner and their subcontractors, and the Defence technical authority for ADF psychological selection.
Influencing the design and implementation of changes to the ADF psychological selection process, ensuring they align with Defence policy and professional requirements.
Leading the oversight and quality assurance of the professional work done by DFR's contracted psychology personnel, ensuring that psychological assessment practice and reporting satisfies both Defence policy and contemporary standards.
Investigating and responding to complex and sensitive complaints and appeals from ADF candidates.
Leading the development of DFR policy and practice guidance documents, to operationalise high level Defence policy for use by DFR psychology.
Representing DFR psychology in a variety of forums.
About our Team
Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) is responsible for recruiting for the Australian Defence Force the right people in the right numbers at the right time in order to build and sustain Defence capability.
DFR is a public-private collaboration between Defence and a recruiting company and provides recruiting services to the Australian Defence Force in accordance with standards and policies set by the Navy, Army and Air Force.
Recruiting services are delivered using a mix of military, APS and contractor staff operating in a high energy, multi-vendor environment.
DFR is comprised of a national headquarters in Canberra (HQDFR) and multiple ADF Careers Centres (ADFCCs) across Australia.

The Recruiting Health Services (RHS) team, comprising psychologists, medical officers, military personnel and administration staff, contributes to exciting projects within the scope of personnel selection and military employment.
The RHS ensures that only people who are medically and psychologically suitable are selected for Defence service.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will need to demonstrate the following:
Technical expertise, sound professional judgement, and relevant work experience in organisational and/or clinical psychology (or other relevant areas of psychology), with a focus on: personnel selection and classification; psychological testing and assessment; and practice ethics.
The ability to analyse and interpret information, to determine a way forward with managing highly complex and/or sensitive issues.
The ability to interpret, develop and implement policy and procedures governing the provision of professional psychology services.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem solving skills and the ability to provide advice in order to influence strategic direction.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
The ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement, manage multiple work streams, and prioritise work in order to meet deadlines and achieve outcomes in a high tempo environment.
The ability to interpret and apply research findings relating to psychological selection.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Baseline Vetting" level.

Mandatory Requirements:
Registered as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
