About the Opportunity The Cancer Genetics service at Liverpool Hospital is looking to recruit a Level 1/2 Cancer Genetics Counsellor on a temporary part time basis (0.2 FTE).
The service provides familial cancer risk assessments, genetic testing and risk management advice to patients and families in the South West Sydney area.

It will suit individuals who are keen to work in a busy department servicing a culturally, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse population.
The successful candidate will gain experience in the work up and management of Cancer predisposition syndromes.
In addition to the staff within the Cancer Genetics team, the successful candidate will be required to work closely with and provide advice to multidisciplinary groups regarding genetic considerations, and liaise with pathology services.

The Cancer Genetics service at Liverpool Hospital supports the ongoing education of staff, is an active participant in the NSW Familial Cancer Centre Group and attends monthly educational meetings that include staff from NSW Health providing Cancer Genetics services.
The Cancer Genetics service comes under the umbrella of Cancer Services.

What You'll be Doing The Cancer Genetics Counsellor will work as part of the Cancer Genetics Service in partnership with the Department of Clinical Genetics to provide cancer genetics diagnosis, testing and counselling services with patient and / or family members of the Cancer Services.

This position will provide support to individuals and families to minimize the impact of a cancer genetic diagnosis.
Provide equitable, accessible and confidential genetic counselling support and education to individuals, families, health professionals and community members throughout all sectors of South West Sydney Local Health District.

Where You'll Be Working Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area.
It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment.
The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Must have an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing, non-medical discipline.
