The key duties of the position includeThe RoleWe are advertising for two (2) WHS Officer Vacancies.
The role details and key activities for the two positions are as follows:

EL 1 Governance ManagerThe EL 1 Governance Officer contributes to the purpose of Navy Safety and Environment (NavySafE) and Chief of Navy's Safety Due Diligence Framework by providing leadership in strategic and operational governance to ensure accountability, transparency and effective collaboration for the organisation.
This is achieved through the development and implementation of better practice governance policies, processes and procedures and providing strategic advice and support to senior level committees including the Navy Safety and Environment Board.

This role will assist in the development of rigorous and relevant performance measures, information and data by implementing the NavySafE Business Intelligence Strategy.
The role will contribute to the development and oversee the implementation of Navy Safety Strategy aligned with the Defence WHS Strategy 2023-28.
They will work collaboratively with the NavySafE Policy team on continuous improvement of the Navy Safety Management System.
The role has supervision of the publications and business intelligence teams within NavySafE.

EL 1 Safety Policy ManagerAs the Assistant Director Safety, you will lead an innovative team responsible for providing Workplace Health and Safety subject matter expertise, advisory and analysis services to Navy.
You will advise stakeholders on the application of legislative and regulatory information in the WHS Act, as well as Defence and Navy safety doctrine.

Your responsibilities would include:

Leading a high performing team to provide advice that influences the practice of safety professionals in Navy;Providing specialist advice on the development and review of safety policy and approach to safety risk management;Representing the Navy Safety Policy in working groups and other forums;Contribute to and provide advice to the senior executive on regulatory reviews;Incident investigations and other technical assessments.

About our TeamThe Directorate of Navy Safety and Environment works across a range of specialisations including work health and safety, occupational hygiene, environment protection, and compliance and risk management systems.
We are an integrated workforce which includes military and civilian personnel with highly specialised skills and deep maritime experience.

The Navy Safety and Environment (NavySafE) team is part of the Navy Engineering Division and works across a range of specialisations including work health and safety, occupational hygiene, and environment.
NavySafE is accountable for developing and sustaining Navy's Safety and Environment Management Systems and assuring Navy senior leadership that these systems are effectively implemented and maintained.

Our Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate will have:

Demonstrated policy, governance and secretariat skills and experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders on complex policy and legal issues;A demonstrated strong understanding, and application of Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislative frameworks and Defence's mission and policy requirements;An understanding of the strategic objectives of the organisation and develop work plans regarding ongoing review and development of safety policy;Ability to contribute their own expertise for the benefit of the business unit and encourage others in the team to draw upon this knowledge;Demonstrated ability to achieve results, with experience planning and managing multiple complex tasks and competing priorities to achieve timely outcomes;Ability to build and sustain relationships with a network of key people, both within and external to Defence, to proactively deliver outcomes at the enterprise level;Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate with influence on matters complex in nature.
