Take the lead in digitising collections and expanding our online catalogue, making history accessible to a global audience.Join a team dedicated to preserving and celebrating local heritageEnjoy a greater workplace experience with flexible hours including a nine-day fortnightLET'S EXPLORE THE JOB As Research and Collections Officer you'll play a vital role in supporting the cataloguing, interpretation, and recording of community, social history, and archive services offered by our Arts, Culture and Tourism department. This is an opportunity to combine your passion for history with your technical and organisational skills to make a significant contribution to preserving and sharing local heritage.
Central to this role is the creation and management of content in the collections database, alongside curating and expanding the community history website. Your work will ensure that our online collection remains open, accessible, and engaging for a broad audience.
You'll be involved in community-focused activities, such as assisting with history-related customer inquiries and contributing to programs and exhibitions, including the annual History Illuminated Festival. Occasionally, you'll assist with the installation of exhibitions, ensuring they are presented professionally and effectively.
May operate across departmental service delivery, Monday through to Sunday; 8.00am to 9.00pmIs located across Council's museums and collection storage spaces and/or Administration Building, with occasional visits to external sites/depotsRequires a Working with Children's Check to be completed prior to commencementLET'S HEAR ABOUT YOU You're not just a library research officer—you're someone who thrives on uncovering stories, interpreting history, and making connections. Your ability to write fluidly and clearly reflects your strong research skills and talent for presenting information in ways that engage and inspire a wide audience.
You're an excellent communicator, both in writing and in person, and you enjoy working collaboratively with others. Whether contributing to programs, exhibitions, or assisting with customer inquiries, your enthusiasm for sharing history is evident in everything you do.
Digitally savvy, you're comfortable navigating and managing collections databases and adept at using technology to enhance accessibility and engagement. You understand the importance of preserving cultural materials to industry standards and have the technical knowledge to ensure best practices are followed.
