Role Overview
APD is seeking a highly qualified Principal Electrical Engineer/Technical Director with expertise in the design of High Voltage Underground Cables.
This critical position will serve as a technical authority, offering senior leadership and strategic direction for large, multi-disciplinary projects.
The successful candidate will deliver technical support and professional guidance throughout all project phases, including feasibility studies, conceptualization, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and post-construction activities.

This is a full-time position, and we will consider applicants from the following locations: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Hobart, Auckland, and Wellington, as this is where our offices are.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead technical and design management for underground cables.
Develop methodologies and schedules for underground cable projects.
Prepare and review option analysis report, preliminary design report, safe design report, detailed design report.
Prepare procurement specification and technical evaluation report.
Perform root cause analysis task for underground cable failure incidents.
Create and verify detailed construction design drawings.
Estimate and prepare multidiscipline tenders and proposals.
Build and maintain strong client relationships.
Key Attributes:
Ability to challenge specifications for efficiency and innovation.
Proven experience in the ANZ region with trusted utilities and T&D customers.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Collaborative approach focused on knowledge sharing and team development.
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and client relationships.
Technical Requirements
Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering with CPENG.
Advanced understanding of Underground Cables Design and proficiency with specialist software such as CYMCAP.
Delivering project cable system design requirements, including but not limited to: Current ratings as per Australian Standards.
Forced ventilation design for cable tunnels.
Impressed voltage calculations.
Emergency, Cyclic & Short-term overload ratings.
Cable crossing ratings.
Producing Bonding diagrams.
Cable pulling and laying design.
