0126228 Full time, continuing opportunity Support the University in delivering enhanced education and research using your skills in PC2 Laboratory management Base salary from $121,508 plus 17% superannuation About the opportunity Enabling world class biomedical and multidisciplinary research at the Mallett St Campus Brain and Mind Centre in Camperdown, the Senior Technical Officer manages a dedicated team in the delivery of timely and effective technical services to research groups to achieve enhanced education/research support outcomes. This includes ensuring the delivery of day-to-day technical support services, coordination of the purchase and delivery of supplies to support the labs as required, managing the provision of technical advice to educators/researchers, and ensuring that the facility and equipment are properly maintained.
Under broad direction of the Manager, the Senior Technical Officer will lead a team to implement new processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working to improve customer service delivery, efficiency, and resource utilization, and training to support the day-to-day running of research laboratories. They oversee the professional development of a team of technical staff, ensuring that relevant technical and professional training is undertaken, mentoring, and coaching the team to develop skills that positively affect how they work and interact with others.
Your key responsibilities will be to: provide effective day-to-day leadership, management, delegation, coordination, guidance and support to direct reportssupport and manage the agreed delivery of technical services in the designated areamanage the delivery of training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, facilities, and general procedureslead the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility areacreate and endorse a positive, professional, customer-focused team culturelead the effective utilization of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring that the work area's education/research requirements are effectively metchampion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk managementcreate and manage opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of othersprovide project management or project support as required, collaborating with other TSS, PSU or central project managers/teams as requiredworkforce development and career planningprovide financial management support for the area of responsibilityAct as Local Radiation Safety OfficerAbout you: a degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent extensive experience working in PC2 labs working with tissue culture (stem cell, mouse) etcWillingness to undertake training and responsibility as a Radiation Safety Officerstaff training, development and management, with demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staffstrong stakeholder management and relationship building abilityfitness ability to do manual lifting as requiredrelevant experience in maintaining a PC2 research laboratoryrelevant experience preparing, maintaining/growing and storing viral, bacterial and parasite culturesworking knowledge of laboratory regulationsability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures.Sponsorship / work rights for Australia Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
