ASD 4, 5 & 6 Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist As a Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist , you will stay abreast of the latest domestic and international developments in technology, explore the risks of these technologies, test and assess the effectiveness of current and novel cyber security mitigations, and develop valuable advice for both internal and external stakeholders.

Roles in STAR Branch include both technical and non-technical; spanning strategic and operational planning, research and development, operations, business management and mission governance.

ASD 4 Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist
With supervision, perform information and cyber security work within an integrated technical and non-technical workforce.
With supervision, provide and apply technical cyber security expertise to time sensitive policy questions.
Develop technical expertise and advice for non-technical colleagues and other technical staff on a range of cyber security related issues.
Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in teamwork and motivate fellow and developing technicians.
Actively engage in ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
Develop knowledge of cyber security legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and the Australian Signals Directorate's mission and policy requirements.
ASD 5 Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist
Under limited supervision, perform information and cyber security work within an integrated technical and non-technical workforce.
Develop technical cyber security expertise and advice for a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Actively liaise with key stakeholders and identify relevant expectations and concerns to achieve cyber security outcomes.
Develop a sound understanding of cyber security legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and the Australian Signals Directorate's mission and policy requirements.
Demonstrate a sound level of problem solving ability on detailed security or sensitive projects and exercise appropriate judgement.
Contribute to developing, implementing, and reviewing policies and procedures relevant to Australia's cyber security.
Actively engage in ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
ASD 6 Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist
Perform information and cyber security work within an integrated technical and non-technical workforce with minimal guidance.
Demonstrate a sound level of problem solving ability on detailed security or sensitive projects and exercise appropriate judgement.
Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures relevant to Australia's cyber security.
Represent the team and actively liaise with key stakeholders to achieve desired cyber security outcomes.
Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, provide leadership to fellow and developing technicians and actively participate in teamwork.
Pro-actively identify and engage in ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
Possess and apply knowledge of cyber security legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and the Australian Signals Directorate's mission and policy requirements.
About the Team
The Standards, Technical Advice and Research (STAR) Branch , within ASD's Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), informs and advises government and industry on cyber security best practices.

As a Technologist within STAR branch, you will have a unique opportunity to apply your passion for technology in a way that directly contributes to improving the cyber resilience of the Australian community and helps to make Australia the most secure place to connect online.

STAR Branch is comprised of four sections that:
Deliver research and knowledge on operational and critical emerging technologies through Australian Signals Directorate owned labs and public private partnerships.
Support the cyber uplift of Australian organizations, and awareness raising of individuals, through the provision of technical advice and guidance.
Foster and lead improvements in cryptography, emerging technology, and cyber security innovation through the preservation of international democratic technology standards.
Endorse highly experienced cyber security professionals to conduct independent security assessment services that contribute to securing the information systems of Commonwealth Government and industry.

Previous cyber security experience or knowledge is preferred.

Cyber security expertise ASD 6 Cyber Security Mitigation Technologist
