About the Role The Faculty of Arts invites applications for an Assistant Lecturer in Cultural Materials Conservation to join its dynamic team.
Reporting to the Discipline Chair, this role is based within the University of Melbourne's Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, one of Australia's leading research centres in conservation.
Specialising in the conservation of 3D objects, with expertise in inorganic materials, you will leverage your industry knowledge to deliver postgraduate teaching programs of the highest calibre.
In this role, you will primarily focus on teaching, dedicating 90% of your time to delivering high-quality education, with additional responsibilities in administration, service, and scholarship.
Your responsibilities will include: Coordinate the teaching activities of specified subjects to the standard of the Faculty and in the mode of delivery required (e.g., lab-based practicums, classroom seminars and practicals, blended learning and workshops).
This includes ensuring that tutors and industry specialists are provided with relevant information.
Development of specified subjects and teaching materials (including tutorial guidelines for tutors); and subject guides, practical manuals, and reading packs (where applicable) for students.
Setting up of seminars and laboratory practicals including access to collections, procurement of materials and maintenance of equipment for conservation treatments.
Setting assessment tasks, coordinating assessment processes, and recording/reporting component and final results.
Selection, consultation with, and supervision of tutors or seminar assistants (where applicable).
Who We Are Looking For We are seeking a committed and engaging educator with experience teaching at the tertiary level, a commitment to inclusivity in student learning, and the ability to work collaboratively with students.
Your expertise in curriculum and subject development will be complemented by exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage administrative tasks effectively.
With a talent for fostering a cohesive teaching team, you will support staff and build positive, professional relationships with colleagues and students.
You will also have: A PhD in Cultural Materials Conservation or cognate field or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated strong record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment in a range of teaching delivery modes.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum and subject material development.
Experience in managing and supporting staff and fostering an effective teaching team.
Proven ability to work positively and cooperatively with students.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.

Your New Team – The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies (SHAPS) is a part of the Faculty of Arts and comprises of History, Philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science, Classics and Archaeology, The Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and The Program in Jewish Culture & Society.
SHAPS offers a wide range of classes in these disciplines and has an Honours, Masters by Coursework and postgraduate student cohort.
This position resides in the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and report to the Discipline Chair.
The Grimwade Centre is a University of Melbourne Research Centre hosted by the Faculty of Arts.
