Associate Counsel

Minimum qualifications:

- Qualified Austrian Lawyer.
- Experience either in private practice or an in-house legal team.

Preferred qualifications:

- Experience in a private practice, government, or in-house media/technology legal team in Austria.
- Experience in public speaking and ability to work well as part of a team.
- Experience in digital regulatory policy and/or legal matters.
- Experience advising companies on compliance with data privacy laws, regulations, and/or incidents. Experience with the legal mechanisms governing data privacy.
- Ability to adapt quickly and work on a broad range of legal matters.
- Ability to speak and write in German and English fluently.

As an Associate Counsel, you will work on exciting legal issues. The projects and cases you will take on will challenge you to think big and differently. You will partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you will proactively assess legal risks and advise on products. You'll advise the business on its activities, including key legal risks and strategies, while working closely with team members to roll out new products, negotiate key agreements and manage regulatory challenges and litigation as needed. You will work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced team environment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide expert, strategic legal advice to the company, to management, product and commercial teams, as well as Comms and Government Affairs/Public Policy teams in the region, across EMEA and US.
- Respond promptly and reliably to internal and external requests for advice, specifically with regards to litigation, regulatory inquiries, agreements, commercial and agreement regulations, IP/IT, data protection, advertising, competition/consumer protection.
- Assist with litigation and regulatory investigations as needed in cooperation with Google Legal colleagues and external counsel.
- Set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors. Anticipate issues and estimate risks, strategically identifying solutions to eliminate or mitigate risks. Work with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas.
- Work cross-functionally to support and align our advocacy campaigns and to provide legal input on policy proposals and legislative recommendations.
