- As part of the **decarbonization of the residential heating and cooling sector**, the installation of **innovative heat pumps **becomes crucial to cope with the changes in the **space heating and cooling demands and domestic hot water preparation** in conjunction with **a 5th generation district heating network**.
- This **power-to-heat **technology is fundamental when aiming **towards sustainability** **and phasing-out of natural gas**. However, the integration of heat pumps and storages in the building distribution system layout is a **technical challenge **due to the number of variables involved (building type/category and demand of domestic hot water and heating system).
- For different operation modes, the modular heat pump with PCM storage is tested at the **AIT sustainable thermal energy systems - heat pumps lab** in order to address the **operability of the modular heat pump and the phase change material (PCM) storage** with the different **aforementioned variables**.
- As part of our interdisciplinary team, you will support the planning phase of the experiment including the instrumentation of the modular heat pump and the PCM storage.
- You will contribute to the set-up of the modular heat pump and the PCM storage in the lab by installing the sensors for operation variables (e.g., temperature, mass flow, pressure, humidity).
- Under the guidance of your colleagues, you will operate the modular heat pump and the PCM storage, will learn how to monitor the operation status and verify the acquired data quality.
- You will gain knowledge on the acoustic behavior of the modular heat pump by supporting in acoustic measurements.
- You will analyse various data streams and prepare a documentation on the experimental investigation. Eventually you prepare your results also for their use in **scientific publications**.
- You primarily conduct **research and development **in the team of the H2020 HYPERGRYD project - thus you will collaborate with an established Austrian heat pump manufacturer and will have the chance to learn in a world-leading institute for **heat pump technologies**.
- You concretely make a **real-life contribution** to the **decarbonization with the aid of experimental investigations**.
- You extend your knowledge in the field of **experimental methods, measurements and data acquisition**.

Your qualifications as an
**Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master studies in the field of mechanical engineering, process engineering, control engineering or technical physics, or any other similar study program
- Good knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat pumps
- Good knowledge in experimental workflows, methods and measurement
- Strong motivation for obtaining skills in scientific analysis and evaluation
- High level of commitment and ability to work in a team
- Good English language skills in word and writing

**What you can expect**:
A salary of EUR 890 gross per month for 20 hours per week. In addition to numerous benefits, you will also be part of our international YOUNG AIT Group.
