As part of a large research project funded by FFG, we offer 1 PhD position on a very innovative research topic:
**Your Tasks**:
This PhD topic investigates the realization of **fairness
- and sequence-aware data analytics methods and recommender systems**. Thus, based on the digital traces of interactions recorded in different environments (e.g.,learning portals, multimedia environments such as music streaming services and immersive spaces created by digital twins). You will **study and model temporal and contextual dependencies** between these interactions to develop novel algorithms for next-interaction recommendations and for recommendations of interaction-sequences. Additionally, **principles of trustworthy AI with a focus on fairness and biases** will be investigated to ensure unbiased and fair analytics and recommendations.

The dissertation work will be carried out in the **recently established Fair-AI research area led by Dr. Dominik Kowald, Dr. Emanuel Lacic, and Dr. Simone Kopeinik** (formally known as Social Computing). Additionally, the dissertation will be embedded and supervised at the Doctoral School of Computer Science at the Graz University of Technology.

**Your Qualifications**:

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or similar
- Good knowledge of machine learning and data analytics, knowledge in recommender systems is a plus
- Experience and practical proficiency with programming languages and tools (e.g., Python, Git)
- Analytical thinking as well as independent and structured work
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written

We are required by law to specify the minimum gross salary, which is according to the university salary scheme with a master’s degree for a full-time position 3,058.60 Euro gross per month (14 times per year).
