Technical Assistants

The Superti-Furga laboratory at CeMM in Vienna is contributing to the scientific fundaments of precision medicine by studying drug action at the systems-level. In recent years, the laboratory has focused on understanding how membrane transporters govern access to nutrients, ions, xenobiotcis and drugs for cells and organisms. Regulation of the function of transporters is integrated with metabolic processes, brokering internal demand and external offer. Specificity, regulation and functional integration of the roughly 1,500 human genes encoding various types of transporters is only poorly understood. The Superti-Furga laboratory is particularly interested in the > 400 members of the Solute Carrier Proteins super group (SLCs), as they contain some highly prominent drug targets and drug transporters, are involved in numerous diseases, but are dramatically understudied (César-Razquin et al. Cell 2015). According to the mission of the laboratory, SLCs can be considered the managers of the interface between chemistry and biology, and between organisms and their environment. Consequently, studying their regulation is of fundamental importance for biology and medicine. The Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) is an EU public-private partnership funding health research and innovation. As part of an IMI-supported effort aiming at “unlocking” the SLC target class and involving a consortium of several leading academic laboratories and pharmaceutical companies, we are currently searching for several highly motivated research technicians who want to contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research with a focus on membrane transporters and their role in human physiology and pharmacology. Common requirements and desired qualifications Bachelor or Master degree in life sciences Prior wet-lab and/or quality control experience Excellent ability to implement standard operating procedures Support with the generation of standard operating procedures Proficiency in MS Office High accuracy and reliability Very good written and oral communication skills in English Social competence and the ability to work in a team **We are currently looking to fill several positions**: A) TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (M/F) in Cell Line Engineering **Reference code**: TA1 Your main mission will be to engineer a battery of cell lines using cutting edge genome engineering technologies. Previous experience with CRISPR/Cas9 and Flp-In technologies is an advantage. Very good command of English (in writing and speaking) is required. Your main tasks and responsibilities include: Cell culture (maintenance, manipulation via genome engineering, cellular viability assays) General molecular biology techniques (PCR, genotyping, immunoblotting, cloning) Sequence analysis using basic bioinformatics tools (blast, reading of trace files, TIDE) Technology development as team effort with postdoctoral fellows Training of new lab members Perfect record keeping and report writing Presentation at team meetings and, occasionally, externally B) TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (M/F) in Sample Quality Control **Reference code**: TA2 Your main mission will be to control the quality of biological samples using the highest standards. Previous experience with quality control procedures is an advantage. Very good command of English (in writing and speaking) is required. Your main tasks and responsibilities include: Cell culture (maintenance, manipulation via genome engineering, cellular viability assays) Sequence analysis using basic bioinformatics tools (blast, reading of trace files, TIDE) Quality control of biological samples (cell lines, proteins, serum, DNA) Good general knowledge of molecular biology techniques is an advantage (PCR, genotyping, immunoblotting, cloning) Receiving and sending of biological samples Technology development as team effort with postdoctoral fellows Perfect record keeping and report writing Presentation at team meetings and, occasionally, externally C) TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (M/F) in Mass Spectrometry **Reference code**: TA3 Your main mission will be to process samples for proteomics and metabolomics studies using HPLC and / or GC and mass spectrometry in collaboration with the proteomic / metabolomic facility at CeMM. Excellent background in analytical techniques (HPLC and / or GC and mass spectrometry) is highly desirable. Very good command of English (in writing and speaking) is required. Your main tasks and responsibilities include: Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of state-of-the-art LCMS instrumentation General biochemistry techniques (protein purification / quantification) Data analysis, including statistical evaluation and visualization General molecular biology techniques are of advantage (immunoblotting, PCR, cloning) Technology development as team effort with postdoctoral fellows Training of new lab members Perfect record keeping and report writing Presentation at team meetings and, occasionally, ex
