About your role

As the Head of Finance at GATE Space, your main responsibility will be to shape the financial backbone of the company. You will collaborate closely with the leadership team to build accurate, forward-looking financial models, guide strategic decision-making, and ensure operational excellence across all financial processes. Beyond managing day-to-day financial activities, you will continue to develop and maintain robust systems for controlling, accounting, compliance, legal administration, and stakeholder communication. Your work will play a critical role in enabling GATE Space to scale responsibly, efficiently, and transparently.

Your primary tasks

• Financial modeling: model all cash inflows and outflows on a forward-looking basis that ends up closely matching reality, both for the purpose of our own liquidity management and for projections of financial performance for external stakeholders (i.e. equity investors)

• Accounting: work with our accounting firm to accurately manage the books of the company and prepare monthly and annual financial statements

• Financial performance analysis: Monitor our financial performance relative to our financial models

• Investor & other stakeholder updates: prepare the financial part of the backward-looking monthly financial updates we provide to our stakeholders and present ad-hoc updates when needed

• Research contract reporting, audits: Manage the reporting requirements for our research contracts and lead GATE Space through audits

• Legal: Lead the standard in-house legal activities (i.e. issuing staff contracts) and work with our law firm on other corporate law matters

• Compliance: Ensure that all taxes are paid and filings are completed in time  

• Payroll: Coordinate payroll with our external payroll provider

• Implementation of large finance transactions: Work with the leadership team to implement large customer contracts and equity funding rounds

Your qualifications

• Minimum of 5-7 years experience in as many of the following functions as possible: Financial Planning & Analysis, Controlling, Accounting, or similar fields

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities, ideally including work experience in working in a start-up or scale-up

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Economics, Accounting or a related field, or self-taught.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills

About your employment

We are looking for a part-time or full-time employee for h/week, starting as soon as possible. This role is in-person in Vienna, Austria.
