Do you want to be at the forefront of Europe's healthcare transformation? Join the ESR as a Junior EU Policy Officer and shape the future of European healthcare through evidence-based policy.

Tasks

As Junior EU Policy Officer, you will play a vital role in monitoring legislation, developing evidence-based policy positions, and building bridges between EU institutions and Europe's radiology community.

Your work as a member of the ESR department of European and International Affairs will include:

  • Actively monitor, analyse and comment EU health and digital policy developments, legislative files, and institutional initiatives impacting medical imaging, cancer care, artificial intelligence, and health data governance
  • Engage directly with radiologists and clinical experts to gather insights, identify challenges, and transform their input into powerful, evidence-informed contributions to EU health policy
  • Develop position papers, regulatory analyses and presentations for the ESR on key topics and issues together in close collaboration with ESR experts and working groups
  • Act as a bridge between EU institutions and the radiology community translating policy developments into clear messages for clinicians, and ensuring their knowledge and on-the-ground experience is reflected in ESR's strategy and policy recommendations
  • Support the development of advocacy strategies (including preparing speaking points, policy messaging and public consultations responses)
  • Engage with EU institutions (EP, EC, Council), international organisations, health stakeholders and civil society to build and maintain strategic relationships to advance ESR interests in collaboration with the ESR Brussels Office
  • Participate in various EU-level events, roundtables, and stakeholder meetings to strengthen ESR's visibility and engagement
Requirements
  • University degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. political science, European studies, health economics, law, medicine)
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in EU public policy
(Previous experience working with or within EU institutions, medical societies, or health-related NGOs is a plus)
  • Excellent command of English language (at least C1) - additional languages are a benefit
  • Familiarity with European institutions and related decision-making processes (bonus if you know the healthcare angle)
  • An interest in healthcare, science, or digital policy and a genuine desire to make a difference
  • Experience in public affairs, producing position papers, briefings and press releases - you know how to get the message across clearly
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative and work independently: You don't wait to be told what to do
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills: You enjoy working with others and building relationships across sectors
  • Confidence in outreach and stakeholder engagement, especially in multi-stakeholder or cross-sector settings
  • Familiarity with European health policy frameworks and current debates in healthcare, digital transformation, or research policy is a plus
Benefits
  • A meaningful role at the heart of European healthcare and research policy, which can help shape the voice and presence of a leading medical community in EU decision-making
  • The opportunity to gain hands-on experience in translating clinical expertise into tangible health policy influence and positioning, and grow professionally in the role over time
  • A modern office in the heart of Vienna (U1, U2, U3 and U4)
  • A dynamic and international work environment with a mission-driven team
  • Flexible working hours ("Gleitzeit")
