Within this project the generation and meshing of artificially generated microstructures from experimental data should be enabled by creating a workflow to link three different software programs. To achieve this, Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) and similar 3D data will be utilized and analyzed, using MTEX (mtex-) to extract key microstructural parameters. These descriptors are then input for a microstructure generator ) to construct the geometry. Finally, the artificially created geometry has to be meshed within COMSOL Multiphysics, requiring JAVA coding for automation.

Key responsibilities in your new role:

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Understand the problem and related data sources through the exchange with experts
  • Data Processing: Create a workflow for generation and meshing of artificially created microstructures from experimental data
  • Academic Writing: Document results and prepare a Master Thesis

Type of employment: Temporary / Full-time (flexible working hours from Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.)

Duration: 8 months

Qualifications and skills to help you succeed:

  • Education: Motivated and committed student (f/m/div) from the field of Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Knowledge: Basic knowledge in using git (optional) as well as interest in coding and working with structured data
  • Technical Skills: Programming skills in MATLAB (MTEX) and JAVA (COMSOL meshing automation)
  • Hands-on Experience: Proficiency to work in an international team
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English, German is a plus

This position is subject to the collective agreement for workers and employees in the electrical and electronics industry (full-time), employment group B for bachelor students, employment group D for master students ).
