About the team The Pharmacy team at Peter Mac plays a key role in supporting high quality patient care, incorporating all facets of innovative clinical pharmacy practice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the pharmacy team provides a comprehensive patient-focused service for all Peter Mac patients, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of all treatments. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and collaboration, the team contributes directly to advancing cancer treatment through research and improving outcomes – keeping patient care at the centre of everything we do. About the role As a Grade 4 Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of training and credentialing programs, focusing on improving and supporting the educational goals of the inpatient service area and wider department. Working closely with the inpatient wards team, including the senior clinical pharmacist for inpatient services and the clinical pharmacy trainer, you will enjoy working in a busy, team‑based environment when striving towards providing excellent patient care. Key responsibilities Develop, implement, maintain and apply a high standard of training, assessment and verifying methods Ensure Pharmacy Technicians have the necessary skills, knowledge and capability to undertake both core and extended roles Maintain accurate patient and dispensing records Uphold excellence in pharmacy standards and practice Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, regulations, policies, and quality standards Maintain a standard of excellence in all areas, following SOPs and ensuring accurate task performance Coordinate sustainable and continuous improvement processes to optimise operational efficiency Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures consistently Perform regular stock level checks and support expiry date checking procedures in the dispensary Ensure pharmaceutical stock storage arrangements are consistent with a safe working environment Incorporate environmental sustainability considerations within the scope of quality use of medicine (QUM) framework Comply with Peter Mac policies to maintain a safe workplace, complete incident reports promptly, and respond appropriately to OH&S incidents Participate in on‑call and weekend rosters and contribute to Pharmacy Management team initiatives Support the work of the team and the department through technical functions relating to dispensing, distribution, data entry, label preparation, inventory control, and stock file maintenance Prevent bullying, discrimination, and harassment, and support performance development, recruitment, selection, and performance management Meet occupational health and safety and infection control requirements, attend training and understand emergency procedures Maintain a standard of excellence in all tasks, performance and communication, and demonstrate proficiency, initiation and management skills appropriate to the Grade attained About you You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who is able to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll bring with you Evidence of Certificate IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician) or equivalent Well‑developed organisation and prioritisation skills. Previous experience in oncology pharmacy practice is highly desirable. Skills and qualifications Completion of Certificate IV in Hospital Health Services Pharmacy Support or equivalent At least 3 years full‑time hospital pharmacy experience Advanced computer skills with proficient knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel and Word Competent in working with digital health applications including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and pharmacy dispensing systems Willingness to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist as a member of the pharmacy team in accordance with legislation requirements and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and experiences. Knowledge of pharmaceutical products and medical terminology Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and effectively in inter-professional teams Commitment to continued professional development and education Experience in advance scope pharmacy technician duties such as taking medication histories, medication counselling and ward‑based duties. Position Summary To participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost‑effective pharmaceutical care for patients, staff and others by arrangement. To supervise and coordinate training of pharmacy technicians in collaboration with the relevant pharmacist managers. To develop and maintain operational policy and procedures. Work collaboratively with other Grade 4 pharmacy technicians and pharmacy managers to build sustainable process improvements thus ensuring the ongoing competency of the pharmacy technician workforce and operational efficiency at Peter Mac. Key relationships Internal: Senior Clinical Pharmacist & Pharmacy Clinical Trainer, Pharmacy staff, Nursing staff, Support staff, Patients. External: Pharmacy Technician Leads from external hospitals, Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha), Registered training organisations (RTO). Key accountabilities (continued) Produce competency and capability frameworks for all expanded technician roles. Deliver procedures and competencies for the implementation of new technician roles. Build a sustainable process to embed a modern technician career structure for Peter Mac. Manage and support the delivery of Certificate III and IV enrolments for technicians. Management of continuing education sessions for technician development. Senior Technician team member of Pharmacy Education Steering Group. Be responsible for the development and maintenance of suitable databases and records of staff skills, competencies and training needs. Coordinate sustainable and continuous improvement processes to optimise operational efficiency. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures 100% of the time. Ensure regular stock level checks are performed in dispensary. Support the expiry date checking procedure for dispensary. Ensure that expiry date checking policies are followed. Ensure the pharmaceutical stock storage arrangements are consistent with a safe working environment. Include environmental sustainability considerations within the scope of quality use of medicine (QUM) framework. Complies with Peter Mac policies to maintain a safe workplace. Complete incident reports 100% of the time and respond appropriately to OH&S incidents. Plan and implement service delivery improvements. Active contribution to the Pharmacy Management team. Participation in On‑call and weekend rosters. Technical functions relating to dispensing and distribution of medicines including data entry and label preparation, assembly and labelling of stock. Imprest shelves are maintained in accordance with agreed range, quantity of in‑date stock, and stock control functions including stock level audits, expiry date checking, stock file maintenance, internal stock movements, recycling of stock. Takes all reasonable steps to prevent bullying, discrimination, and harassment in the workplace. Performance development and review, recruitment and selection, performance management. Takes all reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment. Understands emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment. Attends health & safety training on emergency procedures annually and is capable of identifying emergency equipment in place. Direct care staff will attend the yearly update on theory of fire, code red and orange responses and use of extinguishers. Adheres to the principles of infection control in accordance with Peter Mac policies and procedures.
