Locum Dual Breast Sonographer / Mammographer Location – CairnsHourly pay rate – Excellent hourly rates DOE + superDate and Duration – 5 January 2026 for 3 weeksJob Ref – Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Dual-Qualified Mammographer & Breast Sonographer to support the Breast Imaging service at Cairns Hospital, a busy regional referral centre in Far North Queensland. This role includes mammography, breast ultrasound, and participation in interventional sessions. Travel support, accommodation allowance and hire car will be provided. This is a QLD Health role, which will require credentialing in line with their protocols. Our team can step you through this process. About the role This locum role provides a well-structured mix of breast imaging and interventional work within Cairns Hospital’s busy breast service. You will undertake mammography and breast ultrasound across designated breast imaging days, while also contributing to a dedicated weekly interventional clinic. For those seeking additional variety, optional rotations into the broader Medical Imaging department are available. Sonographers with a primary focus on breast ultrasound may also support BreastScreen assessment clinics. The position offers flexible working hours to accommodate service needs as well as personal preference. Primary Breast Imaging Days: Monday – Mammography & Breast Ultrasound Wednesday – Mammography & Breast Ultrasound Every second Tuesday – Mammography & Breast Ultrasound Interventional Clinic: Wednesday afternoons – FNA, core biopsy, VABB & hookwire localisations Additional Rotations: Optional shifts within Medical Imaging outside breast sessions Breast ultrasound–focused candidates may work within BreastScreen assessment clinics Hours of Work: Flexible shifts: 08:30–16:30 or 09:00–17:00 Skills and experience Proven hands‑on experience in mammography and breast ultrasound Ability to perform and interpret breast imaging across screening, diagnostic, and interventional settings Comfortable managing 7–10 mammography patients per half‑day and up to 5 breast ultrasound patients per half‑day Experience assisting with: FNA, Core biopsies, VABB, Hookwire procedures Proficient with: Siemens, Hologic - mammography, Philips (MI also uses Canon & GE) - ultrasound, RIS BreastScreen BSQR3/4 & PACS Sectra Strong communication and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team including radiologists, nurses, mammographers, sonographers, and BreastScreen admin Excellent time‑management skills to maintain workflow in a fast‑paced hospital setting Ability to work effectively within a large, busy medical imaging department Benefits Accommodation & travel provided Explore the region in your down time Weekly payroll Competitive locum pay rates 24/7 support from the Aussie Locums team About Aussie Locums At Aussie Locums, over 90% of our healthcare clients and professionals trust us repeatedly, making repeat business the cornerstone of our success.
