Senior Advisor – Corporate Communications The Senior Adviser – Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and implementing targeted internal engagement and communications strategies aligned with the Council Plan and organisational strategy. The role works closely with the Mayor, Councillors and CEO to deliver speeches, briefing materials and media opportunities, and manages media relations and issues management responses. About the Position Temporary parental leave cover position until April 2027 Salary: $109,139.16 per annum plus super Convenient Preston location, close to public transport Flexible hybrid work: up to 2 days from home Responsibilities Lead the Corporate Communications team and develop engaging strategies supporting Darebin’s Council Plan and Community Vision. Develop and implement an internal communications strategy, supported by events, meetings and tactics to drive internal engagement. Establish a communications culture that encourages sharing of information, collaboration, and recognition of achievements. Monitor engagement effectiveness and recommend improvements. Develop Council’s Annual Report, collaborating across the organisation for transparency. Support Mayoral channels with content for corporate communications. Serve as liaison for media and manage proactive and reactive media relations. Monitor reputational risks and provide holding lines and communication plans. Support development and implementation of civic events. Qualifications & Experience High competency managing multiple projects and priorities. Strong negotiation, motivation and influence skills. Stakeholder partnership and change support experience. High‑level problem solving and solution focus. Experience advising at the highest level in complex, politically sensitive government environments. Excellent skills in engaging diverse audiences. Strong written and verbal communication. Creative strategic thinking and application of new communication approaches. Ability to engage diverse stakeholders to build relationships, consensus and support.
