$86,887 - $93,066 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Melbourne CBD - VIC The Role Under limited direction, the APS 5 Asset Accounting and Reporting Officer performs complex asset management and reporting tasks within Defence's financial framework. They apply knowledge of Commonwealth financial compliance and legislation to support decision-making aligned with Defence policy. The role involves managing workflows, making independent decisions, and providing advice based on legislation, policy, and procedures. Officers identify and resolve routine non‑compliance, conduct research and analysis, and support administrative functions to achieve outcomes. They may coordinate team activities, set priorities, allocate tasks, and oversee performance. Responsibilities include reviewing work quality, coaching team members, and identifying training opportunities. Officers engage with stakeholders to provide advice, address issues, and contribute to Defence outcomes. Key duties include: Performing asset accounting, balance sheet management, and financial statement analysis. Supporting monthly and annual asset and financial reporting. Advising on technical asset and financial accounting matters. Applying asset management policies and procedures. Building effective relationships and contributing to team activities. Engaging stakeholders and addressing concerns. Proactively progressing work and resolving problems. Additional responsibilities include managing the Fixed Assets Register and Inventory Holdings, maintaining asset classes and effective lives, and handling additions and disposals. Officers analyse data to support external financial reporting, including journal preparation, reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. The Asset Accounting team is responsible for the full financial reporting and the financial accounting of Defence's assets through their capability lifecycle. The teams are responsible for the financial accounting of the largest asset base in the Commonwealth valued in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
