3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. South Thornlie Primary School (PS) was first opened in 1976 and has since grown into a vibrant and diverse school with strong community links. South Thornlie PS became an Independent Public School in Term 3 2020. We currently have a campus of five teaching blocks accommodating Kindy, Pre‑Primary, Junior, Middle and Senior classes. Our grounds are well maintained with three large play areas including playgrounds and a sporting oval. There are two enclosed assembly areas, a STEAM room, Science and Music rooms, Library and a Computer lab. Our school runs a local dental health program and has a Dental Clinic and OSH Club located within the school grounds. Role As a Special Needs Education Assistant you will, under teacher direction, assist in the implementation of specialised education programmes and maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment to meet the specific needs of students. Suitable applicants should display a commitment to working collaboratively and building positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community. Suitable applicants should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be versatile with the ability to work well under pressure, and be a team player. You will possess a calm, positive and professional manner and have the ability to use your initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment. Qualifications & Eligibility Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Valid Working With Children Check before commencing. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before starting. A four‑page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF: Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programmes, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programmes, including special education and therapy programmes where these have been implemented. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programmes to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programmes, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programmes. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and wellbeing of students.
